Pay it forward

We all have artists on our watchlist that we think are wonderful, but who may not get the recognition they deserve or their work just gets passed by in the influx of daily work here on Redbubble. I would like to form a journal entry here that serves the purpose of bringing awareness and traffic to these underappreciated artists, so my proposal is that anyone who wished to come into this journal and post 1 or 2 links to artists on their watchlists whom they absolutely adore. This idea was originally begun by JULIE LANGFORD so please be sure to visit her journal HERE too for more amazing work! Also feel free to link to their images as well, and try not to repeat the same artists as have already been mentioned and promoted. This way we can get the word out about so many of these tremendous hidden talents here at Redbubble. I have two artists I would now like to introduce to you that I have on my watchlist: David Linkenauger and Shelley Spillenaar David is one of my fellow home state photographers and takes really nice waterscape images, and Shelley in my mmind has a wonderful eye and a keen sense of capturing the right moment with animals. Please go take a look at the wonderful work of these two artists, and if you like what you see be sure to tell them so and maybe even add them to your watchlist! Also, be sure to scan your own watchlist for someone who you think deserves more attention than they are currently getting in the world of Redbubble! Let’s make this a huge success!

An interview with......... Christopher Ewing !!!!!!
by micmacA very talented artist with an heart as big as the univers,I want you to meet…......... / Chris...
A very talented artist with an heart as big as the univers,I want you to meet…......... / Chris / / / / How does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspects of your life? Actually I haven’t ever thought of myself as “creative”. For me, it’s all about the lighting and where I am and what is around. I have always tried to be different in what I see or shoot, and attempt to make people see or feel what I felt when I shot it. So many times when I am in my mountains, I have people stop and ask if I am getting any “good shots”, my reply is always, “what do you concider good?”. They are usually meaning did I get any bear, deer, etc. Of course I go for that, but I like going for the little things in life that make the big things survive. The insects, tree trunks, flowers and so on. I want to share with the world the small things in life, things they dont think about. / As far as my life goes. I havent ever been a trend follower, I have always been more of a trend setter. I guess it’s part of individuality. I have always felt if I follow another’s way of life, how can I find myself and who I am. For me it’s the little things in life that make the largest impact, rather then the big things which are usually quickly forgotten. I feel we must keep the humor in life, without it, we just slowly drift away from our inner child. Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on redbubble particularly special or meaningful? This is a tough question. Just saying one person or moment doesnt do it justice. It is the site as a whole that has made an impact for me here on redbubble. You, and so many others that have supported my work and inspire me to do the very best I can, to stay creative. The administration has made me a very proud member of this growing community. Where else can you go with so much talent and go around the world while sitting in your bivies? “blushing” / Redbubble is just like family, we all get along and then we have our moments of when we dont get along, it’s just like a family. Show & tell us about five works on redbubble that have moved or inspired you? Just five??? That is all I get to choose?? That isnt fair!! There is so many and so much here that inspires and moves me daily. But if I can only choose five, these are my picks. First and foremost, is a piece called Time is ticking by Marianne Venegoni, photoeyes , / I have loved this piece of her’s since I first saw it years ago. Time has always amazed me, on how we always have to wait for it, but it doesnt ever wait for us. / / My next is the very first card and (for now) the only card I have bought on RB, it’s the work of Maggie, aka Dinghysailor1 / Her work called loch of the lowes. I love the stillness and peaceful feel to this shot. Love how the mountains tower over the loch with it’s peaceful waters. One can almost smell the salt water as they view this. I even have the card close to my computer so I see it daily. / Then we have a very young photographer, keegan wong / His shot of salvation just shows how we really are, it doesnt matter how many people w are around, it all boils down to us being alone, and finding ourselves. / Even tho everyone knows I dont use programs, I must admit, this one artist is one of the very best I have ever seen in my life by taking a picture from within her mind, and creating it thru digital art, that is Annika Stromgren / Tropical cove is one of my many many fav’s of her work. / / And last but not least, is Helen Bascom / I admire her passion for fighting for the cause for ALL of us. She does a lot of what us all just talk about doing. The shot I am choosing of her’s is a creative shot, and of course a humorous one. Even tho the shot was done in protest at the time,Home page…, the simplicity of it, is just awesome. Now of course she will probably blast me for using this one of her’s, with so many other impact shots she has, but this is a classic, one for the reason it was created, and two for the simplicity of it. / So this is me in a nutshell. I’m just a photographer who will shoot anything as long as my “eye” sees it. I love shooting everything, doesnt matter if it’s a landscape, wildlife, nature, people, whatever. Just make sure I have camera in hand and the light is just right. / Thanks so much for asking me for an interview, it still hasnt sunk in that you chose me out of ALL the talent here. I am honored and flattered.

Fire is a manifestation of the Great Spirit in Native American traditions, where the campfire was an image of happiness and prosperity, and the Sun itself was called the Great Fire. This is dedicated to Max and Jess in the hope that all their exams and worries subside, and that they realise just how wonderfully talented and gifted they have become! Thinking of you both through this worrying period. Acrylics and ink

Interview with pinkyjain
by Paul ComptonMy second in a series of interviews that started here...
My second in a series of interviews that started here / / When I first encountered the work of pinkyjain I knew I had stumbled onto a completely unique, talented and spirited individual. Her creative style is versatile, playful, heartfelt and thought-provoking also. From her funny anthropomorphic animals to her brilliantly detailed and atmospheric vampire series I am always excited and amazed to see her next artwork. I’m sure I am not alone in wanting to thank pinkyjain for all her good deeds on Redbubble and for her inspiring creativity, love and enthusiasm. Thank you, pinkyjain, for being you. So let’s begin the interview…........ / / Pinkyjain, how does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspects of your life? / I have one thing in common with John Henry, only that it was a pencil in my hand when i was born, not a hammer. I’ve drawn pictures as long as i can remember. / My biggest crazy ambition is to be published. I don’t know why really, it’s just been my desire when i started getting ideas for illustrating my stories. It isn’t to be rich or famous (sure i like to have money, but i don’t want too much, what a headache that comes with, and i certainly don’t want to be famous, more headaches). But since I’ve been on RB, my art has taken off into a new spin, a lot of it is from my doodles which has been such fun. I’ve doodled all my life, but never really took notice of how they could blossom into a piece of art someone really seems to enjoy. My main goal is still to get published, but doodling has been a breath of fresh air. And since my printer bit the dust several months ago, i can’t print out my query letters for the literary agents (waiting for my friend to research good printers, he has a good idea & sense for such things) so I’m taking a much needed doodling break. And I’m thinking lulu.com, for publishing a book of my doodles. Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on RB particularly special and meaningful. / That’s a real toughie, everyone i have met on RB have made my experiences here so very special; & meaningful. I am just inspired by every one in my Watch List, which is like 450 people, hee hee. Show And Tell us about 5 works on RB that have moved or inspired you. / Another lulu of a toughie. I have 30 pages of Favorites, which adds up to 9,288 favorites. / But a really special person and a really charming drawing: Paul Compton, / Cynthia Reed / / I adore and love all of Paul’s fantastic drawings and paintings. Cynthia Reed is a pure gem, she makes me feel safe, and cozy. I can so identify with her, reading her books by candlelight, (Could so be me in my storage unit), with her darling BookWorm Pal. Dawn Davies / Again, so very hard to pick only one. Dawn is a true talent in pastels. But since we can only pick one, i have chosen Forest Fire / / Such an amazing work in pastel, so rich in colors and depth, the brightness of the fire & its reflection in the water. Gives me a sense of being there, warming myself in front of the camp fire, surrounded by nature. Jan Landers / Another hard case of picking just one, Jan and her work are so Mother Earthly spiritual, she has taught me to see the world in such a more connected way, opened my eyes to more of the beauty that surrounds all of us, but i choose Earth Medicine-Crow / / I met Jan while she was uploading the “Earth Medicine” series, i was drawn to the bright glorious colors & Animal designs. Lori Peters / Lori is a true talent with her photography, she brings such personality to her Animal photos, it has been such a joy to be allowed into a Fox family’s life through Lori’s photographs. i picked “I’m Hungry Mama”:http://redbubble.com/people/usafots1979/art/1173625-1-i’m-hungry-mama / / This is such a unique & sweet capture of such a tiny and, though defenseless, very demanding little baby Robin. The mommy and daddy Robin built their nest right on Lori’s porch. Karin Taylor / i picked Karin’s remarkable “Flying Machine”:http://www.redbubble.com/people/karin/art/974312-3-flying-machine / / Hard again to pick only one, Karin is so multi talented, so many gorgeous & wondrous paintings. i picked “Flying Machine”, i love her face, so sweet, with those big blue eyes, her cap and colorful hair, and her overalls, i just love her overalls (i wear overalls everyday!), and the airplane. And the overall painting has a vintage look which i love so much What is the primary reason you make and enjoy experiencing art? / Drawing is like eating and sleeping for me, i have to do it. Since i found zazzle first, then Wonderful Red Bubble, it opened up a totally new world for me to share my art, and to actually have people like my stuff, and even buy it. Wow! List some artists or experiences that have shaped the way you see the world. Beatrix Potter, Vincent Van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Edward Hopper, Edward Gorey, Bram Stoker, Harper Lee, Wolfgang Mozart, and 1000’s more, and so many here on Red Bubble. A big thank you, this was fun, such a cool way to meet everyone. / – pinkyjain Thank you for the interview pinkyjain, it was an honour. / Best wishes to you all and thank you for reading.

Where do creative talents come from? Can creativity be taught? This question has inspired philosophers, artists and academics. That ever-rolling nature vs nurture debate. Is it talent or is it training? Neurobiologists became intrigued by the subject after brain trauma patients reported previously undiscovered, and highly developed, creative talents. Which corners of the brain influence creativity? What holds it back or sets it free? Creativity popped onto the radar of corporates after research suggested employee productivity increases in a creative environment – that people will contribute more to their company if they’re given the chance to let their imaginations wander. But we are much more curious about your views on creativity… What do you think – can everyone be creative?

Here in the RedBubble office we’ve been loving the range of your work and your diverse backgrounds. Some of you are studying, others are creative professionals, some have just stumbled across creative skills and passions after years working in other fields, and others are becoming so addicted to your creative hobbies they are starting to take over! Do you wish you’d backed your creative talents earlier in your life and career? Or do you think it is better to build up a solid backup plan and then explore your creative potential once you have established some security? As Edith Piaf would sing “non je ne regrette rien” – regret nothing – but what advice would you give your kids? Chase the dream 100% or nurture the hobby?
