A series I worked on in 2001. A coincidence of moments – a few days after talking to a friend about the old pin the bug science experiments we used to do in school I came across the Squished Fairy Book a children’s’ book about a girl who collects fairies in a scrap book by squishing them between the pages of her book. Loved it and decided to play around with the two ideas together. Interestingly when I first exhibited them I was abused by some of the gallery patrons for the ‘nasty’ ‘horrible’ work which ‘they would never have on their walls’.

This is a row of willows that is not more than a 100 mt. far from my house, in the country side near to Scalenghe in Piedmont, Italy. / I took this on a very early morning last november, 30 minutes after sunrise, while a thick fog was coming around, quickly obscuring the entire scene in just five minutes. Hope you enjoy it, thanks for viewing. Paolo

A brother & younger sister got chased by a tiger at night, and they climbed up a big tree. When the tiger found the way to get up there, the children prayed to god to rescue them from the danger. God responded to the prayer and let down a rope, and the children were pulled up to the sky. After seeing this, the tiger also prayed to god for a rope, and a rope came down. But, alas, it was a rotten one! The tiger, therefore, fell in the middle of the air and landed on a millet field. The brother went up into the sky and became the moon, and the sister, who was shy and was afraid to be alone at night, became the sun. (There are actually more to say about the story, but I only described the things which are related to the image!) Angel Model from ~b-e-c-k-y-stock at DA Without Words Based on The Angel by Hans Christian Andersen Plot summary A child has died, and an angel is escorting him to Heaven. They wander over the earth for a while, visiting the child’s favorite places. Along the way they gather flowers to transplant into the gardens of Heaven. The angel takes the child to a poverty-stricken area where a dead field lily lies in a trash heap. The angel salvages the flower explaining that it had cheered a crippled boy before he died. The angel then reveals he was the boy.
And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting / On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door; / And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming, / And the lamplight o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor; / And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor / Shall be lifted – nevermore!
On a very rainy day, in a very rainy city… Sir Cricket von Marionette decided to have his portrait taken. You see, Sir Cricket had a ladyfriend whom he bestowed the utmost admiration upon. One could even say he prized her esteemed company beyond all other crickets in that drizzly town. Perhaps even in the entire land, though Sir Cricket von Marionette was not one to go galavanting too far beyond the streets of his beloved home. *NOTICE** / To read the story in it’s entirety… please click here

This is a great poster for kids or a nice card to give when they lose their first tooth!!! A visit from the tooth fairy is always very very welcome!!! :) Once the Chunkies are created and photographed, I usually dismantle them to be used in the creation of more chunkies, so I am recycling the plasticine. These Chunkies have been very therapeutic to create over the holidays, whilst taking a break from red bubble and having my family around. I have many more to come, and although I won’t be on RB as much, I hope to also be doing some serious painting this year…so i look forward 2009 with much anticipation …

Pencil, PhotoshopCS4, Illustrator / Available as a framed art print, canvas, mounted print and greeting card. / For a long time, my work has focused on the idea of finding happiness when things seem ugly outside. Bright colors, cute inviting characters and floral designs would populate imaginative worlds. Running with these ideas a new direction has emerged. As I close my eyes, visions of a central figure (here is a self portrait) seem to always appear. Eventually they surfaced in my paintings and act as a focal point inviting the viewer into a playful place free of ugliness and filled with simplistic aesthetics. / All Origional art work can be purchased through the artist. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- Copyright notice: / All rights reserved.
