Tahquamenon Falls is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The falls consist of several sections and levels of falls along the Tahquameon River. According to Indian lore, the origin of the name Tahquamenon is attributed to the water’s amber color, which is the result of leaching of tanic acid from the cedar and hemlock swamps that feed the river. The Tahquamenon is special in many ways. One little known fact is that it is the second largest waterfall east of the Mississippi, with Niagara being the largest.

The Upper Falls is one the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. It has a drop of nearly 50 feet and is more than 200 feet across. A maximum flow of more than 50,000 gallons of water per second has been recorded cascading over these falls.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park encompasses close to 50,000 acres stretching over 13 miles. Most of this is undeveloped woodland without roads, buildings or power lines. The centerpiece of the park, and the very reason for its existence, is the Tahquamenon River with its waterfalls. The Upper Falls is one the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. It has a drop of nearly 50 feet and is more than 200 feet across.

This is a photograph that was taken at the Tahquamenon Falls State Park in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I’ve edited it in Photoshop (still learning). My intention was to make it look unnatural while still keeping the original image’s beauty. I’d really appreciate it if you’d let me know what your thoughts are on it.
