For me summer holiday memories are all about bare feet, the sea, the smell of aerogard and barbeques, and long days and warm nights often spent in a caravan park by the ocean. This piece is about all of that, but I also wanted to infuse it with a bit of darkness and mystery …Holiday villages are so full of life and colourful characters by day, but at night when all have gone to bed and secured their temporary little homes, they can be quite strange and creepy…

A new tourist attraction brings people from near Dubai over my house and through the dunes. I decided to chase them the other day till they landed. There were 3 balloons with the baskets carrying about 20 passengers. They had a great clear morning. The balloons landed near a large labor camp on a Friday morning when the folks do not have to work—they came out in mass to watch the spectacle. Most of the workers pictured are from Nepal. Completed in 2004, age 17 This is a slightly cropped version of the original, due to the limits of my camera. My original signature got cropped out so I had to insert a new one in photoshop; in the original it is not actually located there. Original size: (40” x 30”) The two subjects are posed in similar positions, each having a dark, circular central focus., Both images have lines above and surrounding the centres, which draw attention towards the centres. The vertical composition help strenghten the feeling of height given by the vertical lines. Both subjects are organic, however one, the eye, has straight lines and geometrical shapes, while the rose has curvy lines and organic shapes. In the eye, the centre is literally dark, while in the flower the darkness is created by shadows. Number 5 in a series of artworks which are composed from images and re-composed in composite form. I was trying to catch the essence of a modern concrete jungle and it’s parts. Based on the idea we chucked around about including the tags in the image…
