This was taken on Kodak high speed infrared film with a manual SLR, f16, 1/60 sec. and a red filter over the lens. Scanned the negative in a film scanner to PS, no post processing except adjusting overall level and contrast. It’s the tackiest souvenir/shell shop on the A1A near St. Augustine Fla. Which means it’s probably the tackiest souvernir/shell shop in the world. The guy on the porch is actually a dummy, which I think was for sale. Or it was the shopkeeper’s embalmed husband… I should have looked closer I guess, but I was just so amazed at all the other wonderful junk. Parts of the A1A are actually in danger of erosion from the ever receding shoreline. It will be such a sad day when places like this are no longer.

"Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky tacky"
by Heather HartkampUS$3.42–US$91.20
The 60’s song written by Malvina Reynolds and popularised by Pete Seeger came to mind when I saw this housing development. Houses crammed together with hardly any room for the kids to play. / 8 shots ‘handstitched’ together.

©Seth F.Weaver,Sr. 05/03/08. A Compullage™ work. A strange sort of super hero that blinds evildoers wit the glare of his costume. A unique outfit of sequins, mirrors, and halogen light bulbs. A former fashion designer and broadway costumer that had a tragic confrontation with a pair of electric scissors. He only works the night shift because his unique costume doesn’t have the desired effect in sunlight. He’s the Earth-friendly hero using 144 rechargeable batteries to power his blinding glare, and he rides a bicycle to all his exploits. Sort of a violent “Liberace” (I’m showing my age here, I bet no one knows who this guy is!). Thanks for looking Seth.

Lipstick
by NuckleHeadStephI know you think it’s tacky, / But I like to wear the color of wild cherry taffy on my lips
This goes out to several people I’ve known who’ve been in abusive relationships and can’t get out. One of which loved bright red lipstick, but her boyfriend hated it, would never let her wear it, it was a form of slavery to her, not having freewill over such small issues. It was heartbreaking to watch, she says she’s happy now, and I’m glad. But all the same…this one goes out to her. I love you babe! P.S. any artists out there interested in a photography work or something to go with this, I’d love to see what anyone could come up with!

I’m really fond of this picture that I took of some sort of penny arcade in Coventry. Ultimately, everything in Coventry is pretty horrific and I thought that this picture summed up the tackiness that prevails in the majority of its city centre! I love that the sign that says “Traunts! Stay Out!” Reads like a warning to people that they should stay out because traunts are in there, rather than a warning to traunts not to go there. The tracksuited kids, superflous Shrek, horrible lights and Santa in the his ill-fitting waistcoat all made me want to get a snap and I think its a funny glimpse of provincial naffness that i’m very familiar with.

I love the contrast between the old buildings and the tackiness of the Christmas market snowman and Father Christmases in front.
