I’m pretty sure I saw a t-shirt tutorial somewhere on RB, but enough people have been saying they don’t know how to do it that I thought I would write an in-depth tutorial using both text and screenshots to explain the process, along with how to use RedBubble’s t-shirt template. It will be written mainly for those who are inexperienced in using photoshop, or who have used photoshop (or photoshop-type programs) but who don’t understand the layers functions. To use the tutorial you will require either Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Photoshop (versions: (possible version 7 will work for this) CS, CS2 or CS3) – it doesn’t look as though you can get a free trial of Elements, but you can download a free trial of Photoshop CS3 to try, or go to the Corel website and download a copy of their Paint Shop Pro X2 or if you want to try a freeware that’s considered pretty good you go HERE and download GIMP Gimp will work for this tutorial, but the name of the tools and possibly their shapes and locations will be slightly different, so you’ll have to hunt for them. The t-shirt tutorial should be posted sometime tomorrow (Monday) on Photography Blography Properly detailed instructions are too lengthy to put in a journa entry, hence the pdf format of the tutorial – besides, for many new users illustrations of the steps make things a lot easier, and I can include those in a pdf tutorial. Download the T-shirt Tutorial PDF download link – click here for the tutorial Please feel free to contact me if you need any more help. Use bubblemail or the email link included at the end of the tutorial. G

Hi anybody having problems with T/Shirt designing…. / I use software called Paint.net and find it so simple / any one wanting details just send bubblemail and I will answer straight away as I spend most of the day at Computer Hey just thought that I would sit and write out my way of doing it useing Paint.net / Here goes….. / First open paint.net then get new.click on image, resize :- and clear maintain aspect / and clear set absolute size, then set to 3200 pixels high and 2400 pixels wide then set resolution to 200 this sets the size to 12×16 inches. / save this as T/Shirt template.png / Open this and carry on as follows / to load a picture go to layer and click add image this will open up the place that you have your pictures stored, open picture that you want and it will appear in the top left corner, click on move pixels and you can then resize the picture and move it to where you want it to appear on the T/Shirt.having done that go to edit and invert selection / then edit and erase selection, you will now have your picture where you want it, / for further editing you can remove parts of the picture by using the eraser . / You can also add text if you want to. / I hope that this helps /

  • Grrrrr . . . Gimp and PNG

After many hours of frustration, Lady Sorrow has returned. / ...

After many hours of frustration, Lady Sorrow has returned. After giving her a transparent background with the Gimp software she just kept hanging when I tried to upload. Tried changing the options given when you save to a PNG file in Gimp. And the upload just hanged. . . . tried changing them again, and again . . . same result every time. Googled PNG and the GIMP, searched the redbubble forums, searched many sites. Still no joy. Tried downloading the redbubble t-shirt template, pasting in lady sorrow . . . and still no result. Checked the pixel size in the GIMP , seemed correct. And then finally, tried the same thing in a trial version of Corel Photopaint 12 – had a look at the pixel size of the image and there was the culprit The gimp created PNG file’s pixel size was not exactly 2400×3200. Close, but not exact. So I created a new file with Corel to exact dimensions, pasted Lady Sorrow in – and presto she uploaded quicker than you could click your heels 3 times. So now, why is the GIMP resizing documents. And what am I going to do when my free trial of Corel Photo Paint runs out in 9 days !!!? Hmmm perhaps I need to spring for a copy of Corel Photopaint . . .

  • How to do a T-shirt template...

Step 1… Get Template. Go to the Add a T-shirt Design and Click on the Highlighted T-shirt Template. A box will pop up for File Download. Click on Save and name your file (Save it to where you can find it). / Step 2… Open up your photoshop and find the Template and then decide what art you would like to put on a t-shirt. (I am only teaching you how to put a full page of art on a template as it is easier for us both). / Step 3.. You should have both the Template Opened up and the Art you want to Trasfer. Now resizing your art to fit on the Template. While on the Template… Go to Image (top right) then Resize and then Image Size. Once you are there you should see these image sizes… Top of page should say 22m… Next Row… width 2400 pixels.. Height… 3200 pixels… width 33.333 inches… Height 44.444 inches… and Resoulution will be 72 pixels/inches. Now you have the sizes and now you can make sure your art fits this size. It can be smaller but no larger than these sizes. / Step 4… Transfering art to the Template. After you have resized the art to fit on the template you now need to do a Select and then All (top left) after you do this you Click on Edit (top left) and then Copy. Now go to the template and do a Edit and then Paste. The art should be on the template now all you have to do is Go to Layers (top right) Now Click on the Template Layer on the small drop down then Click on Layer (top left) and then Click on Delete Layer. This gets rid of the RB grid. / Step 5… Now all you have to do is a Save As and rename the file. Also when you go to close the template and art do not save changes when closing template so you can reuse it again and again. You can also resize your art before closing or save it as the new size. / I hope this helps! If anyone would like to talk live for more assistance my IM address is hoffardart@hotmail.com Here are the direction with less words… / Transfer Template / Open Template / Open Art / Resize Art / Select – All / Edit – Copy (art) / Edit – paste (onto template) / Layers (click on Template Layer) – Layer – Delete Layer / Now File – Save As and Re Name Template / Do not save changes when you close the Template so that you can reuse. / On the art you can resize it or Save Changes when closing.

  • Where Did the T-Shirt Model Go?
    by Peter Horsman

That’s my question… Is there any information/notification as to why the image has changed that t-shirt designs are being shown again…

That’s my question… Is there any information/notification as to why the image has changed that t-shirt designs are being shown against? I really think the new images are bland and non-representative of how the design will look on the finished product. Sure, if you want to see how your design looks on an ironed out t-shirt laying on your kitchen table they’re fine, but if you want to see how they look on an actual person then they just don’t cut it. / I say to RedBubble – Bring back the old image of the guy or girl actually WEARING the t-shirt! Perhaps there was a bulletin explaining the reason for the change that someone could direct me to because it seems I didn’t get the memo on that one and it’s more than a little disappointing :o(

  • Using the t-shirt template file to get an image that is 'cut out' from the background.
    by Janice Sheen

Cnote1394# recently asked me how I get the t-shirt designs ‘c…

Cnote1394# recently asked me how I get the t-shirt designs ‘cut out’ with no block of colour in the background. ... When you open the template file you see a note in the middle surrounded by grey & white squares – those squares show you where the image is transparent and you need the parts you do not want to print on the t-shirt to be transparent in the final .png image. So here we go: I will pretend that it is Photoshop we are talking about, but at this level, most commands and stages will work the same way in GIMP or another similar program. 1st. / with the background layer selected. select the whole canvas / (mac =comand+A, PC = control+A … this is nearly always the same in every program) / then clear the lot, delete it or cut it / (mac =command+C, pc = control+C … this is nearly always the same in every program) / This leaves you with a transparent background with just the gray & white squares showing. then, to be sure that you keep that base layer transparent… make a new layer and delete the old one (sometimes the base layer is locked which prevents it from being transparent… you can just unlock it too. then / open the file that your art is in (photograph, scan, digital image .. etc) and copy and paste the parts you want into photoshop/GIMP. If you paste a vector file, paste it as pixels to save confusion later (the other options are useful to learn about though). now, Photoshop always pastes into a new layer – but I can’t remember what GIMP and any others do, though it shouldn’t really matter unless you are pasting in more than one thing. If you are and the software does not automatically paste into a new layer… then make a new layer before pasting each new part in. What you want to do now it start getting rid of the parts of the image you don’t want to have print onto the shirt. there are several ways of doing this: you can use the eraser to simply rub out the bits you don’t want – remember that the eraser can change sizes to get into small corners and can be either soft edged or hard edged. You can use the ‘magic wand’ tool to select areas of colour to cut/delete You can use the area selection tools (square, lasso, magnetic lasso) select areas to cut/delete Or You can use a layer mask to hide the parts you don’t want to see (using this means that it is easy to undo a mistake because the whole original image is still there, just hidden. – to do this, select the layer that needs parts hiding, then go to the menus: (in photoshop: Layer – Layer mask – Reveal all). you can then use the paint brush with black paint on it to hide the bits you don’t want to see – and white paint to bring them back if you make a mistake. – be sure that you have the mask symbol in the layers pallet selected when painting on the mask, or you will find yourself painting on your artwork itself – have done it often! – easy to reverse: just edit – undo, edit – undo etc etc. or step back through the history pallet. It can be fiddly and time consuming .. but eventually you will have your work cut out and the transparent (gray & white squares) showing through. Don’t flatten the image – you loose the transparency. / Merging the visible layers and removing the hidden ones is a good idea tho. (don’t forget to save before you do this so that you can go back to the layered version later if you want to ) Then save the file as (menu – File – Save as) a PNG file type and upload to Redbubble. I have not really written tutorials much before, so I hope this was useful and not too basic or too confusing…. Happy t-shirt creating.

  • Mini Moo Cards - Examples for T-Shirt designs and Photoshop Template download

I recently got caught up in a frenzy of excitement (after receiving a payment from RB) and ordered some mini moo cards for promotional purposes. These are approx 28mm (h) by 70mm (w), and mine turned out like this… You get 100 in a pack for $20 USD, and can upload up to 100 images. I did 20 images using a customised moo Photoshop template (below), each with 3 Tees. This gave me 5 cards of each variation. The whole set (of 20) can be seen below (click for larger view): I actually saved ‘large’ preview images from RB (removing the watermark) and then batch resized them in PS to 260px (quicker than taking my originals and doing the same). I then just dragged and dropped them onto the template in Photoshop and moved them around in the different ‘slots’ until I’d got 20 variations (a couple were intentionally doubled up). I’m happy with the result (quality of the card and laminated matte print is good) and now all I’ve got to do is work out who to give them to !! :) / Links: Moo printing Moo original templates (‘cos it took me a while to find it) My mini-card Photoshop template (with guides for adding 3 ‘square’ designs)

Peace RB Family, I have had several request for one of my images to be available as a t-shirt, but unfortunately, I am not too skilled in computer stuff, so I’m having a bit of a time with this whole process. I am also extremely hands-on, so I usually end up asking for someone to show me how (because I get distracted when reading info that is not creative writing) to do it, and then if I take my own notes, I can repeat it. I wish that RB would come up with a simple way of adding art to t-shirts here, but in the mean time, if anyone is good at this, perhaps you could help me out. I’d be willing to pay if your fee is affordable for setting this up for me. Thanks! peace…

  • T-SHIRT DESIGNERS - GET BEHIND THIS MOVEMENT!

EDIT – THE AMAZING PEOPLE BEHIND THE SCENES LISTENED...

EDIT – THE AMAZING PEOPLE BEHIND THE SCENES LISTENED —- VOTE ON THIS SUGGESTION AT REDBUBBLE FEEDBACK UPDATED SHIRT DISPLAY on REDBUBBLE For about 8 months I have been hoping the basic t-shirt display would change, but with so much going on around the bubble it has been put to the back shelf. I would like to see this change happen asap as t-shirts are the highest selling item on the bubble. 1. Make the t-shirt previews appear overlayed on real t-shirts / OR / 2. At least update the current t-shirt display to a DARKER outlined t-shirt. The reason for all of this? Well, t-shirts designs on the net are more appealing when they are presented (mocked-up) on REAL t-shirts. This would INCREASE sales in my opinion or at least improve overall presentation and keep a few people very happy for a while! Regards, Diesel Laws VOTE IF YOU AGREE!
