Surrealistic Digital Art / / _“Let there be light” is an English translation of the Hebrew יְהִי אוֹר (yehiy ‘or). Other translations of the same phrase include the Latin phrase fiat lux, and the Greek phrase γενηθήτω φώς (or genēthētō phōs). The phrase is often used for its metaphorical meaning of dispelling ignorance. The phrase comes from the third verse of the book of Genesis in the King James Bible: 1:1 – In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. / 1:2 – And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. / 1:3 – And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. / 1:4 – And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness._ / / Pair with… / / / / / MCN: CCB37-A1E56-16AAA / / © Imber 2007. The symbols in this image are the tree of life with the rabbit representing birth and the raven representing death. The trees roots are wrapped around the figure of a woman; the soul of nature in her endless labor, toiling and eroding in her cyclical eternity. Photo Montage.

Walking towards the edge of a once flattened world, he realized his species sometimes need another consciousness which feels and sees the imaginary but possible paths living in more dimensions nowadays offers… That expedition sometimes requires to see things differently… In Einsteins world time is change… Nothing seems to be obvious. Although the boundaries of our imagination also seem to look quite endless I think it still requires more flexibility in looking at things to understand possibilities within change. According to some Native traditions, the Elk symbolizes endurance or stamina. Bull Elk is a powerfully masculine spirit. The New Moon and Venus in this position are symbolic of the High Priestess in the Tarot deck. The most potent of feminine portents. They seem to me a perfect combination of male-female balance and harmony. / In my interpretation, the placement of Venus between (above, yet behind) the antlers of Standing Elk represents fertility. The Moon, in virtually all traditions is a representation of romantic love …. New Moon, a glowing bowl to hold the abundance of Creation. The marriage of Earth and Heaven. From the Black Butterfly series. Portrait of Shan Zuo Zhou, charcoal and white pastel on mylar drafting film with blue-gray Canson backing paper, 16×16”. From a reference photo by Steven E. Gross. I am a member of the 33 Collective Gallery located in the Zhou Brother’s Art Center, Chicago. The Zhou Brothers have been generous to allow our co-op gallery to use the entire art center for our group show this month. The show opens Friday March 20th, 2009. The Zhou Brothers are always on hand at the center and are very supportive of the members of the gallery and of their artists in residence. I am fascinated with them, their persona, and their work and decided they would be perfect subjects to draw for my series, which always features creatives as models. Brother #2, DaHuang Zhou will be tomorrow’s subject for Daily Drawing. The butterfly is borrowed from a Chinese watercolor design, and the Chinese symbols stand for “inspired-dream-vision-revelation” As noted in my earlier blogs, in this series the butterfly is symbolic of the artist’s muse. The title of this work comes from Chinese literature by Zhuangzi – [Chuang-Tse] “One day about sunset, Zhuangzi dozed off and dreamed that he turned into a butterfly. / He flapped his wings and sure enough he was a butterfly… / What a joyful feeling as he fluttered about, he completely forgot that he was Zhuangzi. / Soon though, he realized that that proud butterfly was really Zhuangzi who dreamed he was a butterfly, or was it a butterfly who dreamed he was Zhuangzi! / Maybe Zhuangzi was the butterfly, and maybe the butterfly was Zhungzi? This is what is meant by the “transformation of things.” – Zhuang Zi (369?-286? b.c.) The Zhou brothers short biography: The Zhou Brothers are one of the most accomplished contemporary artists in the world today renowned for their unique collaborative work process. They always work together on their paintings, performances, sculptures, and prints, often communicating without words in a so-called dream dialogue. Their thinking, aesthetic, and creativity are a symbiosis of Eastern and Western philosophy, art, and literature that informed their development since early childhood. Their indomitable spirit allowed them to leave behind their brilliant success in China, where they were hailed as national heroes for their early work, to step onto the world stage. They have since achieved international acclaim while continuing to work in the West. The Zhou Brothers, Shan Zuo and DaHuang Zhou, were born in China 1952 and 1957 respectively. They studied drama and painting at the University of Shanghai from 1978 to 1982 and the National Academy for Arts and Crafts in Beijing from 1983 to 1984 where they received their MFAs. During the beginning of the 1980s they became leaders of the contemporary art movement in China. In 1985 they won the National Prize of the Chinese Avant-Garde of the Ministry of Culture and the Prize for Creativity from the Peace Corps of the United Nations. They were also honored as the first contemporary artists ever to show their work in an exhibition that traveled to the five largest museums in China, including the National Art Museum of China in Beijing and the art museums in Shanghai and Nanjing. Realizing that the political and cultural landscape at that time would not allow them to expand their careers, an invitation to exhibit in Chicago in 1986 presented a timely opportunity to make the transition onto an international stage. The Zhou Brothers have consequently maintained their home and studios in Chicago while actively exhibiting their work nationally and abroad.” Companion piece, portrait of Shan Zuo’s brother DaHuang Zhou:

Mouse drawn and painted in photoshop 5.5. Windows ‘98 plateform. ‘Lady Australia’ is my first collaboration. Eugenia Bacon of ‘Myslewis’ is my Australian friend. I have known and admired her for amost two years now. When I first got on the web at greeting card universe I had only been on the computer for a couple of months and she kindly took pity on me :-D, [ I was making one snafu after another ] she lead me through the trials of learning Photoshop, [ advantage of having an Australian friend, I work at night and she was up to answer my questions no mather how silly they were ]. I have always loved her work. She is the first to encourage me to explore color and here are the results. I hope you like it. I have used her line drawing, ‘Venetian Style Mask’, you can see it as a birthday card here on Redbubble. / When I was decorating this, the song ‘Waltzing Matilda” kept running through my head. I had always heard the upbeat versions. I was looking on You-Tube and found this version. I warn you this will tug your tear ducts, I hadn’t really listened to the words before. Please view the video, and remember when. The images are a very moving part of Australian history. / Waltzing Matilda FEATURED the Demensions Group / FEATURED the Fantastic Primitive Art Group / I am especially honored that this design has been featured twice. You have a Yank that thinks Australia, it’s people, and redbubble are pretty special. As you can tell I have been influenced by that dramatic sense of color that are a trademark of all the Australian artist that I have met on the web. I have put this design on a T-shirt now so you can not only look at it, you can wear it :-). Note: I just got a reproduction back, the color is outstanding. The brilliant color you see on screen is what you will get This is Eugenia’s ‘Venetian Style Mask’, I elongated it [an old fashion artist trick] then took quite a bit of liberty, but made sure I left the wonderful bones intact. Greeting Card For that bright flash of color or as a conversation piece in your decor use a small ‘Mounted Print’ on a plate easel, chic. Framed Print

I wanted to try and communicate through art what it is like to live with a degenerating spine. I am not doing this for sympathy, but for the people who live as I do and the people that it affects in their world. It is not a pain that can be seen just by looking, as a broken bone is. Some of you know that I suffer from serious back issues. I have 7-8 herniated and/or ruptured discs in my back. To try and SHOW someone what this pain is like is very difficult. Mine has been an approximate 25 year progression. I have had 1 back surgery to relieve pressure off the sciatic nerve from the L5/S1 level. It had become so painful I could not walk without a cane at times. Sometimes the pain would come out of nowhere when I took a step and it was a lightning bolt shooting through me so hard I would fall. I have been in so much pain that I wished for death and if I had been able to walk and find the means I might have taken the out. Thankfully I could not walk = ) / My family has been so amazing in their care and concern for me and my grand children keep me motivated and smiling. I thank them all for their understanding… even if they didn’t really, they tried to. I am blessed to be a huge part of my grand daughter’s lives and it is the most precious gift anyone could ask for. It is difficult at times when René needs to be walked because she is teething or not feeling good. I lose feeling in my thighs at times and the pain in my lower back has been so bad I just cried silently until she was asleep and I could finally set her down. It makes my heart sad when Kolleen wants me to jump on the trampoline or run and play as these are things I must not do. However there are so many more positives with them. I get to be there for them in so many ways and when it’s all too much Sam and/or the kids help out until I am feeling better! So I thank God for all the help I am given, as well as still being able to contribute and feel needed. It has been my lifeline in so many ways.
