  • SOME TIPS IN HOW TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL CEPIA EFFECTS IN PICASA2

Picasa2, sellect the image you wish to work on? Go to effects > filtered B & W > click on the colour box ( move the mouse over the colours and see how it affects your black and white work? Pick the effect by clicking on the colour once. and then ok. For the exersise and comparision I have sellected Snowdrops! Click on Tint! This sometimes boosts the contrast, not always? and click ok if you are happy with it? Otherwise cancel. Graduated tint! I love to use this sometimes to darken my whole picture by dragging it all the way down covering my picture. Slide the feather right back so there is no feather effect, and move the other slider up and down to get the desired result you are looking for and then ok, or cancel? Now to get a lovely warm cepia feel, don’t chose cepia? Sellect Warmify instead! Then sellect the Saturation and move the slider down for a subtle effect and ok! Finally sharpen before saving it as your final work in save as! Another lovely tip, which I love to use for effect is Soft Focus! Slide the size slider almost up to the right and the amount slider almost down to the left for a jentle effect! Here is the finnished cepia effect of the Snowdrops Another way of controlling the contrast of your work is to go to Tuning! There are plenty of sliders to help you to put some life back into your lovely work! Hope this was of some help? And anyone who is interested in Picasa? It is free to download by google!

Sometimes life is hard. I go through emotions I cannot explain? Or it wouldn’t be right to explain even if I could? I suffer with high angsiety and stress because of what life dishes out to me? / My faith does give me the strength to endure there is no doubt about it. Without it I don’t think for one moment that I would be around talking to my friends here on RB? I know I have been missing for quite a while, part of it obviously has been because I was without my computer. But my wonderful husband had bought all the parts to build me one and finally he has. He is the best thing that has happened in my life and I love him dearly. / But also the other reason I’ve not had a full share on RB is because of my emotional state that I find myself in at times when I am just not coping. I am left coping with feelings of hurt and abuse especially now my family have made contact with me and yes, I can forgive and even try my best to forget. But something inside just still hurts very much. / The point that I want to make is that and it has really ment so much to me actually and I want to thank all my very best friends here on RB who despite my absence and maybe unexplained . . . I don’t know but what ever you must be thinking of me?? Still have stood by me and faithfully and loyally suported me here on RB with kind and thoughtful feedback on my work. I am very touched. / What has inspired me to write this was, someone who’s work I admire so much and this person is one of the many top artists here on RB is cheesed off because someone has used her tallent without so much as to saying thank you and because of that she is going to take leave of RB? That is a crying shame. / I do hope this amazing artist changes her mind and doesn’t punnish all those who do really appreciate her and have been suporting her loyally? It always is usually that one person that will try to ruin it for all the rest because of their own selfish ego. / The thing is, for me, despite myself that I am experiencing? It is my friends here on RB that keep me going with all of your kind and warm genuine words! I want to thank you all so much, with my deepest heartfelt regards, Sylvia x

Last time I’ve told you all in a journal that I’ve created a new account here on RB! But I wasn’t quite shure how to use it really? I wanted to do something different and I have desided that this account! S4art is mainly going to be used for creating and designing some fun T-shirts. / So that anyone who is not really into t-shirts doesn’t have to be bombarded with my new uploads! But anyone who has an interest or is curious as to what I am doing? Is welcome to put me in your watchlist and I really would appreciate some feedback too? / Thank you all so much in advance for all your friendship and loyal suport that you have been giving me, which really has ment very much and still does! My very best regards, Sylvia x

  • How I Work some of my HDR Images
    by SylviaHardy

First select your image that you wish to work with and look at it and think about what it is that you want to bring out in the photograph…

First select your image that you wish to work with and look at it and think about what it is that you want to bring out in the photograph? Does it have burned out highlights? Or are the shadows to dark? Or is the contrast to grate? / I do a lot of my HDR work from a single image, because I fail to use a tripod and even then find some slight movement? / I work in Paintshop Pro XI. I open the image that I’ve selected which usually starts with a Raw photograph. / / illustration 1 Open Enhance Photo > Auto Fix / / illustration 2 I try to lighten the shadow area and darken the highlights to bring out more detail and when I am happy click ok. / / illustration 3 Save the copy as in JPG. Now I am ready to create two further exposure effects from this image for my HDR work. Go into Adjust > Brightness/Contrast > Level / / illustration 4 A box will pop up and take the slider to the right to give the photograph an underexposed effect and click ok. / / illustration 5 Save it as with a new name so that you don’t loose your correctly exposed photograph. To save you the hassle of opening your first photograph, just undo the last action of levels and you have the previous effect and open Levels again but this time take the slider to the left to give the photograph an overexposed effect and click ok. / / illustration 6 / / Again saving this one as with a new name so that you have three different exposed effects from the one photograph. Now I am ready to create a HDR in Photomatix. I have chosen to do this in Photomatix basic because I like the effect Photomatix basic creates. / / illustration 7 / / Click tonemapping and you see three basic sliders as well as bit depth output. I always sellect 16 / / illustration 8 Move the sliders around and if you don’t know what they do? Just move them from one extreme to the other. That way you learn what they are for and you can judge what you are looking for in your tonemapping and when you are happy click ok! Your HDR is finnished. But I chose to bring out the foreground out a little more and re-opened it in Paintshop Pro XI, using a selection tool and Feather of 200% / / illustration 9 I used the clarify tool which you find in enhance photo and clarify. I used about 5% / / illustration 10 Then I opened the Histogram which is found in Adjust > Brightness/contrast and Histogram / / illustration 11 By taking the slider slightly down and then click ok. Finally I sharpen the foreground in the unsharp mask / / illustration 12 and click ok and deselect the selection tool by right clicking the mouse and save your work as! / finnished HDR work / This is the original image before I had worked on it! I hope that this has helped? As I have been asked about my method of creating my HDR? And this is one way that I do it but not all of my work! Best regards to you all, Sylvia :-))

I try to keep it as simple as possible? This will demonstrate the Orton effect as well as other editing tips that I use to create certain effects in Paintshop Pro. Demo 1 / Select Picture. This picture is already quite light, which means I don’t need to lighten it any further to create the Orton effect. demo2 / Go into edit and copy! demo3 / Edit>Paste as new Layer, do this twice! demo4 / Use the selection tool to select a part of your photograph that you wish to remain sharp during the process? demo5 / Now invert the selection. demo6 / The first raster, create a Gaussan Blure in Adjust and blure! demo7 / demo8 / Now make sure you highlight the next raster on your bottom right layer and go into adjust > softness and softfocus. I usually allow for the default and click ok! demo9 / demo10 / Now Multiply the layer. demo11 / Now select the next raster layer and again Multiply! demo12 / Go into Layer on top, Merge and flatten all! Invert the selection again. demo13 / Now go into enhance photo and clarify! demo14 / As you can see only the selected part of the photograph will receive the treatment and click ok! demo15 / Now go to adjust > sharpen > unsharpen mask! demo16 / Deselect! demo17 / To brighten the image up, go into adjust > brightness and contrast > levels and use the middle slider to lighten the picture! demo18 / In this case, I have also brought the right slider up to meet up with the beginning of the curve to bring in some contrast as well as adjusting the middle slider! demo19 / And click ok! demo20 / Now you have acheaved the orton effect. But to turn it into even something more different? I will show how to use the curves to create something like cross processing. / Go into Adjust > Brightness and Contrast and select Curves! demo21 / The RGB box has red green and blue which we will use individually to create the cross processing effect! demo22 / First select red and push the curve up to desired effect! demo23 / Now select green and do the same! demo24 / This time, select blue, but instead of taking the curve up, you need to take it down. and click ok! Each time a new effect has been created it is good to remember to always save as in case you don’t like the experiment? Now you have learned how I apply the orton effect as well as the cross processing. demo25 / Sometimes, if I don’t like the extreme effect of what I have done? I get one of my closer to original work of the same frame, which usually you can find in File and reasont files and click on it to open it! demo26 / To layer this image on top of your work, click Edit > Copy and close the copied image. demo27 / Now go back into Edit > Paste as new Layer! demo28 / You have created a new raster on the bottom right in your layer box! demo29 / I have selected Multy for the effect but it is good for you to experiment to get to know all the different effects you can create? demo30 / Layers > Merge > Merge All demo31 / Adjust > Brightness and Contrast > Levels and again lighten with the middle slider! demo32 / To bring in a little contrast, go into enhance photo and clarify! demo33 / To use the noise reduction, which can create a very pleasing effect go into enhance photo and noisereduction! Your work really is finnished! Or is it? Depends if you would like to create a filter effect? demo34 / On your bottom right in the illustration click on new layer and a box comes up and just click ok. demo35 / Sellect a colour above in Matterial. Preferably a lightish tone, but again experiment. and fill your image with the fill bucket demo36 / Again multiply and use the 100% slider and move down for a more suttle effect and flatten image again as before! And finally save as! As for me, I have aplied some final finishing touches such as Film and Filters and here is the finnished work! demo37 / The Kingfisher Trail in Jumbles Country Park

To all of my wonderful and suportive friends here on RB, I feel I owe you all an explanation especially to all who send me your kind bubblemails to wish me all the best for Christmas? / The reason I’ve not responded to you yet is, one thing I am still getting over this virus which has stopped me in my tracks, but also, to say that I am one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and as such I do not celebrate Christmas or the New Year. / But I do wish you all my very best and hope that you are all keeping well and stay happy no matter what time of year it is??
