  • BEST VIEWED LARGER A shot taken while commuting to work on the Manly Ferry one day. This perspective of the skyline then possessed a degree of harmony it has since lost (with the addition of one unfortunate building that destroys the flow). If only Sydney’s glut of outstanding natural environments and beauty (beaches, bays, rivers, national parks) could be matched by a glut of equally outstanding suburban and urban architecture. Maybe this will slowly emerge over time as the ‘design’ tragedies of the past are replaced one by one. (The tragedy for many of the high density, high rise units/apartments in Sydney is that they seemed to lack the hand of a designer in the first place – with any sense of local character, sense of place and environmental harmony an even more remote consideration. Lack of sufficient developer oversight and government attention just exacerbates the problem.) MOST VIEWED IMAGES of all works by Bruce Dickson.

  • I am very proud of this image, and as far as photos I have taken, it is one of my favourites. I took this whilst on holiday visiting a friend in Sydney. I hadn’t owned my Camera for very long at this stage. He told me about a park that overlooked Sydney with great views and said it wasn’t far from where he was staying He volunteered to show me this place. We caught a bus there, which took around 15 minutes. When we arrived, the sun was still out, but I could see what he meant. The view was fantastic! I took a few shots, but I wasn’t overly happy with them. We went across the road to look at the cliffs overlooking the sea. The sun started setting while we were across the road. I looked back and noticed a spectacular scene beginning to unfold. As the Sun was setting the sky graduated from orange right through to deep blue, with wispy clouds that looked as though they had been painted into the sky. As I was setting my Camera up on the tripod, all the lights in the city buildings started illuminating. I stayed until the sun went down, taking a shot every minute or so. The end result was really worth it. I hope you enjoy this image as much as I did taking it!

  • One cold night In Sydney / Taken from the botanic garden looking towards Macquarie Street

  • The roof of the Sydney Opera House. The tiles make wonderful patterns when shot from different angles. / /

  • I went out “on assignment” and took this shot for the / Paint the Town Red or Yellow or Green challenge / in the Sydney group. I found it a bit hard to find any significant colour in the Sydney CBD, though I wasn’t actually surprised by that. I stumbled upon this scene in a little alley way that had a bit of a Melbourne back streets feel to it. Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Like this photo? • Taken from the Fujitsu Building, North Sydney

  • Take a break – Sydney Harbour, Australia. / I love this picture because of the emotion it stirred when I shot it. I got to see & feel someone’s peace, amidst a crazy city. It was a beautiful moment I found myself sharing with a complete stranger.

  • Photos in and around Sydney, Australia

  • Taken in Sydney at dusk 5-09
