Light trails of the standby LED of my computer monitor’s on/off switch in the “Off” state (orange). The international symbol for an on/off switch (a broken circle with a vertical bar through the break) can be seen in bright outline. A five second exposure at macro focus distance and smallest aperture with smooth slow camera movement by hand produced the swirling light trails. / Copyright © 2008 Brian W. Im pleased i went into that little cupboard to investigate that ironing board though, because lurking just around the corner was the electrical switchgear for the block with some nice strange lighting in the room and lovely smokey walls. Its finds like this which have gotten me into the habit of checking every room as i go along, because otherwise you could miss something really interesting. Sometimes the switchgear is just the modern fuse box style, but occasionally you come across these cast iron molded pieces which are far more ornate and interesting as in this picture here. / / / See the rest of this site walk through / /

Getting to be somewhat of a trademark of mine along with toilets and telephone etc, here is another shot of a power socket on a flaking paint wall.

detail from an abandoned cottage taken with my compact, the wall which the light switch was on had fallen down leaving just the wire & switch hanging in the air.

Light trails of the standby LED of my computer monitor’s on/off switch in the “On” state (green). The international symbol for an on/off switch (a broken circle with a vertical bar through the break) can be seen twice. A five second exposure at macro focus distance and smallest aperture with smooth slow camera movement by hand produced the swirling light trails. / Copyright © 2008 Brian W. Switches on walls seem to lend themsevles really well to photography, as do things in threes, so how could i resist a trio of switches especially when it has a background like this to it? When you shoot in HDR you take bracketed images for compilation into a single image later, and after you have been doing it for a while you know what will look good when combined. This was one of those shots, as soon as i had taken it i was looking at the after view going “This is going to make an evil looking shot!” / / / See the rest of this site walk through / /

A close up view of the skirting board and power switch at an abandoned mental asylum, this shot reminds me of the fact that i need to buy a right angled view finder so i don’t have to lay down to get these shots!

Old bakerlite switches in the farm house, this place was full of them, shame they had been overpainted!
