  • I often get questions about the pump house and the diving blocks at Merewether Beach so I found out a bit of info….. 1935 / At a cost of 2,600 pounds, Merewether Ocean Baths, acclaimed as the ‘largest of their kind in the State’ opened as part of the Merewether Golden Jubilee celebrations in November. There was a procession in fancy dress from the Council chambers to the baths. Considered ‘the greatest advertisement for Merewether as a residential suburb’, the new baths had been built further seaward and a little to the south of the older Merewether baths on the same rock platform. At 110 yards by 90 yards, they were ‘big enough to hold the larger swimming events’ and separated into a main pool and a children’s pool by a wide promenade. The main pool nearest the sea was 110 yards long and 55 yards wide, while the shore portion was 110 yards long and 35 yards wide. The 3,500 pounds for relief work on the baths had been paid by the NSW government. Excavation of the baths promised to yield 6,000 to 7,000 cubic yards of stone valued at 2,500 pounds. Merewether Council was seeking a further government loan to cover the construction of dressing-sheds at the baths. The new baths became central to the life of the community and prompted more people from the Lower Hunter district to visit Merewether. • The other day I did a shoot with Tiffany and she shouted “We have to do a shoot in the pond!” I thought she meant on/around the pond, but she definitely meant IN the pond. I thought that would be awesome but it was so cold that I didn’t really give it a second thought. We got lucky with the weather because it was in the 70s, but the water was still pretty cold and Tiffany had to take a hot shower and I fed her hot chocolate and then hot tea as she snuggled in a blanket while we looked through the photos. Despite freezing her it was really fun.

  • Went to go spend the day with Storm, Hank and Shaya today….and as luck would have it… / Hank decided to go for a bath….Oh my gosh…was I lucky or what??? / The white you are seeing in Hank’s eyes is something called a nictitating membrane. This eyelid is transparent, and sweeps across the eye from side to side. It grows in the inner corner of the eye, right next to the tear duct. This is a protection against getting any water, blood, etc in the eye…So all my bath pictures have Hank with his nictitating membrane. Nothing is wrong with his eyes at all…

  • Please meet Manwe…My new friend…and, as luck would have it…he also decided to take a bath, just like my dear Hank…Only..Manwe..really really knows how to plunge…what a guy…and I feel pretty damn lucky to have such fine feathered friends…. I am so excited to announce that this photo is being published in NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC! It will be in February 2010 issue…YAY!!! such an honor

  • This is Odin….he lives at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Odin is an 8 year old White Bengal Tiger who was hand raised, his trainer is Lee Munro. Odin is 10 feet long from nose to tail and he loves to swim; he is the star of the exhibit “Odin’s Temple of the Tiger”. Odin’s mother was the first White Tiger born at the park. I was so taken by this guy, he is so handsome and has such a personality. The face he is making here is actually keeping the water from going up his nose. A century ago there were about 100,000 tigers in the wild. Now there are just 2,500 adults, with the Bengal / variety almost extinct. None has been seen in the wild since the last white tiger was shot and killed in 1958. Deviantart Daily Deviation, 2009-08-06 Winner of the Best Featured Work Challenge / 11/10/09 – 368

  • Twas amazing floating around in the water next to you my dear, the silence was comfortable, but why, my dear, did you not say you could not swim? It was great to be back in the water to take underwater shots again, had to wait a year almost! / But this shot is inspired by a brilliant South African band called Dear Reader. This song is a poignant song with a double twist. It is about apartheid and the seperation between the two races and how black and whites couldn’t be in love… who prevents love? It shows how hearts were torn apart due to the inhumane time in South Africa. White in the Dark… love is most powerful and not even barriers, both physical and figurative, can stop it… Great White Bear He climbed into the belly of the great white bear / It’s very sticky and it smells a little fishy / But no one will look for him there / He took a moment to pick his thoughts and make them clear Oh, what a day it’s been / Oh, what a terrible state he’s in (x2) Her eyes are wired, there’s a hat over her thick black hair / They’re racing through the snow / Their sweaty hands keep slipping / But they’re almost there / Her father’s shotgun ringing out now through the cold night air Oh, what a fix they’re in / Oh, what a terrible sin / Oh, what a fix they’re in / Oh, what a terrible sinister game / The hunter did play / To give them the hope / That they could get away / When biding his time / He did wait down the line / To bring a disaster / On their youthful dreams of escape Oh what a day it’s been / Oh what a day it’s been Run, there’s a bullet in your back / Run, run, there’s a bullet in your back / Run, run, run, there’s a bullet in your back / But I wouldn’t take it back, I wouldn’t take it back / Run, run, run, there’s a bullet in your back / But I wouldn’t take it back, I wouldn’t take it back / Run, run, run, there’s a bullet in your back / But I wouldn’t take it back, I wouldn’t take it back / Run, run, run there’s a bullet in your back / And I want to take it back I want to, want to / I want to, want you / I want you, want you / I want you, want you, want you, want you back Do watch the Video, its a piece of art itself / Featured in Blue Art
