The Greyhound is a breed of dog that has been primarily bred for coursing game and racing. A combination of long, powerful legs, deep chest and aerodynamic build allows it to reach speeds of up to 72 km/h (45 mph)[1] in less than one and a half seconds, or within 3 strides. Until the early twentieth century, greyhounds were principally bred and trained for coursing. This image started out as a light sketch with a hard lead. I then painted the areas I wished to remain untouched with white gouache, and covered the entire drawing with black india ink. Just before it was completely dry, I washed the piece, which removed the gouache completely, leaving the sketch I had started with. Some of the ink was not yet dry when I washed, which created teh striations. I love this “gouache-wash” method, and the serendipitous results I get.
