This is one of the many sinkholes that dot the countryside in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. The long strands coming down are delicate root systems of some of the tropical plants that surround the sinkhole. The sinkholes are quite deep and the water is warm. They are all natural formations.

I’ve been thinking about the sea today….. its such a mysterious and powerful entity and I never tire of its relentless motion. It’s so powerful and so mesmerising to watch. This is another cross processed image and it is of swimmers in the ocean pool shot at Bondi Beach in Sydney. The east coast of Australia is blessed with some staggeringly beautiful beaches and most of them are pretty wild so there are a lot of ocean pools on the beaches so people can swim seriously with being swept out to sea in a rip or eaten by a shark or whatever….... At Bondi its the rips that are the more dangerous of the two. The intensity of the colour is down to processing E6 film in C41 chemistry and its seem to suit the wild energy of the ocean really well.
This next in my small series of crossprossed ocean shots. This was taken very early in the day at Bondi beach when the light was harsh and unforgiving anway and I’ve really pushed that with the post processing. These rocky ocean pools are really wonderful and this particular one is the home of the Bondi Icebergs…. a group of quite mad people who meet and swim in this pool every single day of the year….... and believe it or not…. it can get cold here…... sometimes though they put ice in the pool just to make it a bit more interesting…....:)

Sales of this design so far – 1 sale / / / Summer Heat is a mixed media production on Canson Me-Teintes textured pastel/mixed media paper…. being December in Australia we are experiencing some very warm weather, today the beach was at it’s most gorgeous, this painting is inspired by the sultry salty warm days by the beach we love at this time of year, and the beautiful hues of the water when it’s still like a milk pond as it was this morning :) In the background is an icecream van set up by the beach, which has caught the little one’s eye and she’s waving to the vendor. I’ve used pastels and charcoal, both white and black varieties, as well as pencil and black Faber Castelle markers The original work is available unframed for $220, but it is not so bright and in softer hues… this piece has been enhanced a bit in photoshop

something really odd is going on in oz right now… it’s all gone a very fetching post apocalypse orange… and I do mean everything…. the sky was like all molten and melting down as the sun rose… well I know intellectually that the sun rose although I couldn’t see if for the choking clouds of orange dust everywear….. I walked down to the beach to see what I could see but all I could see was all orange… and there was a layer of red dust on the water and the sand and on everything… no joke I’ve never seen anything like it before…. I wonder if Broken Hill is still were it’s meant to be coz it looks like most of the red bull dust from around those parts is now laying on the beach down here in Austi… most peculiar indeed…. lucky I haven’t seen any orange cats this morning or I really would be worried…. / . / .
This photograph is a tribute to my late brother-in-law, Gary Tierney. Gary died in an accident whilst competing in the Adelaide classic car rally on the 19th November 2009. His navigator also died in the accident. As well as being a keen rally driver, Gary was also highly active in the surf life saving movement. He was a member of the Point Leo surf life saving club for over 40 years. Over this time he was a club champion, club captain, and club president. Today, Boxing Day 2009, is a significant day in the Point Leo surf life saving club calendar. It is the day of two major surf races, the ‘John Marshall’ and the Point Leo swim classic, two races in which Gary excelled over many years. / Today his family and friends wore orange ribbons to commemorate his passing. The photograph is the senior section of the ‘classic’, Gary would have most likely participated in this section, and probably won. It was not to be. /
