  • A flea market or swap meet is a place where vendors come to sell or trade their goods. The goods are usually inexpensive and range in quality depending on several factors, which might include urban or rural location, part of the country, or popularity or size of the flea market. The vast majority of flea markets in rural areas sell goods that are second-hand. Larger selections of newer but usually inexpensive items can be found at some of the larger or more urban flea markets. They have also sometimes been used as an outlet for bootleg movies and music or counterfeit goods ranging from clothing, shoes, handbags, fragrances, etc. The semi-spontaneous nature and vendor-oriented open-market layouts of flea markets usually differentiate them from thrift stores. Some flea markets offer concerts and carnival-type events to attract shoppers.(Wikipedia.org)

  • I'll swap you my house for your art

I’m having the equivalent of a garage sale, except that money is not allowed. I will be accepting only 2 forms of payment – wine or art. Everything in my house is going: My art supplies, furniture, clothes, props, a kitchen full of stuff in great condition (I don’t cook) and some outdoor furniture. Basically, open a cupboard, and if there is stuff in it, you can swap it for art or wine. At the end of it all, I’m hoping to plaster my walls with swapped art and have people around to stare at it while drinking swapped wine. Why? Why not. / Date: Sunday October 5th / Location: 154 Albert Street, Brunswick / / I’d also like to invite other people to bring their things along to swap for art or wine. Drop me a line if you’re interested. So far jemimalovesbigted will be joining me so better ask what wine she likes too!

  • This album aims to help you really see nature for the miniature marvels they represent and to understand how intertwined our cultures have become with these alien creatures. These small and big creaters, insects I captured in New York Bronx Zoo. The landscape pictures are taken around the world, Europe and North America

  • Native to Central America, the brilliant metallic blue upper wings have earned this butterfly title “Jewel of the forest”. The camouflage colouration and eye spots of the under wings are easily observed at the conservatory’s fruit feeders. !http://www.redbubble.com/images/clear.gif!

  • The Gulf Fritillary is common along the Gulf of Mexico. Altough the brillant orange colour of the upper wings and shiny silver spots of the under wings resembles the markings of Fritillary butterflies, this “fritillary” is more closely related to Heliconius or Longwing Butterflies.

  • This is a bit of nostalgia for me – the immortal BBC phone number used for years in the 70’s and 80’s on UK Saturday morning shows like: Multicoloured Swap Shop / Saturday Superstore, and / Going Live If you weren’t there then this will mean ‘nothing’ to you! If you were – did you ever call the number? (or were you one of the rebel kids that watched TisWas?) Remind yourself of some of the 70’s goodness :) Stay in touch Subscribe to T-Shirt Updates Subscribe to my T-Shirt blog | visit the blog

  • / Biomimicry advocates looking at nature in new ways to fully appreciate and understand how it can be used to help solve problems. Tthis is achieved by looking at nature as model, measure and mentor. nature as model means emulating nature’s forms, processes and systems to solve human problems; this is the act of biomimicry. nature as measure means evaluating our designs and solutions against those of nature. • My son, his wife and I stopped at the swap meet on the way to the airport in Sacramento, Ca. This cute riding fire truck caught my eye. I just remember when I was little how much fun it was to go riding in my pedal car. / /

  • It is a popular belief that butterflies have very short life spans. However, butterflies in their adult stage can live from a week to nearly a year depending on the species. Many species have long larval life stages while others can remain dormant in their pupal or egg stages and thereby survive winters. / Butterflies may have one or more broods per year.

  • High Brown Fritillary butterfly . Without all this effort there is a great danger of losing the High Brown Fritillary. However, the project in Great Britain is going well and I’m sure we’ll turn things round. We are expecting to see a large increase in numbers next year,” said David Wainwright, Morecambe Bay Limestones Project Officer. So I hope for England, the butterfly is expected to make a comeback. In Italy Alpes are many this kind butterflys, I saw durin my hike there, maybe at least 10 butterflys.

  • Okay, so I’m curious, hence this shot taken in the rolling expanse of parkland we know as the Alexandra Gardens. I had just taken a frame of the giant electronic screen at the Moomba fairground in Melbourne this year when I suddenly had a thought ….. As a former sportswriter who travelled the world, covering some of the events I dreamed about as a child, I literally spent years staring at giant electronic screens. But what, I asked myself, would the BACK of the screen look like? So I walked behind this huge screen and shot this from a public-access walkway. I actually shot two frames, but I prefer this one because the progression of unsequential yellow numbers and the forest of wires and coloured sockets are actually dominated by the strong horizontal patterns, as well as the bold shadows in the midday sunlight. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F6.7, 1/350 sec, ISO 200, focal length 108mm. Featured in NUMBERS ONE TO A TRILLION, August 2009. Featured in JUST WALLS, September 2009. 110-5354
