This was taken at a place called Swansea which had these terrific pebbles on the beach. This was the sunset on my first day in Tassie. I managed to get awesome weather the whole time I was there.

This was taken at Swansea, Newcastle NSW, Australia. The water around this place is absolutley amazing – the most beautiful blues I have ever seen…unfortunately not so good for capturing in IR…but I managed to get the sky to turn out like the colour of the water. Honestly, that’s the colour of the water. / / / / / / / / / / /
Holiday Huts at Bracelet Bay. I took this photo because the individuality of each house drew me in, despite the fact that they were all so tightly knit. A perception into the human condition, in a way. Featured on Homepage: June 13th 2009 / Featured Art: June 12th 2009

... I’d better check the tide and make sure I’m not expecting visitors. I have now claimed the cave as mine, my solitary place … my hideaway … Looking out I can see the distant beach, Moon Island and the headland at Swansea Heads. This view fills my eyes with wonder. I could spend all day here … but I must not stay too long as there are still hidden wonders beyond the cave and I must do it quickly before mother nature rolls with the tide and drenches this enchanted area with water once more. /

Swansea, Tasmania. Just perfect….we only stayed there for a few hours, but it was a pure delight. We stayed at a wonderful B&B called Meredith House. Very old and beautifully restored, with period furnishings. Most charming…I recommend it to anyone going to that beautiful spot :-) Some of Swansea’s early history is very sad…with a family of 6 children being drowned in a terrible storm over Oyster Bay. The captain and crew left the family and although the parents survived after struggling to keep the children alive, they eventually lost them all. Wikipedia says : / The first European to explore the Swansea area was Captain James Cox sailing from England to Sydney. He took his ship, the Mercury up the eastern coast of Tasmania. On 3 July 1789, having heard of vast colonies of seals in the area, he sailed along the western shore of Maria Island and into a stretch of water he named Oyster Bay. Swansea wasn’t settled until 1821 when George Meredith, his family and workers arrived from Pembrokeshire, Wales in 1821. Meredith obtained a grant from Lieutenant Governor William Sorrell to farm in the area around Oyster Bay. The land was developed and made suitable for seasonal crops and grazing stock and a tannery and flour mill were established by the Meredith River. Whaling stations were also set up on nearby islands to enable the export of whale oil. Meredith’s home, Cambria is now in private hands but there are other important buildings in the town including Morris’ General Store which has been owned and run by the Morris family for over 100 years. The Swansea Bark Mill which processed black wattle bark was used in colonial times in the tanning industry and is now a museum. Schouten House is a fine early Victorian colonial house built in 1844 and is now a hotel. I took this photograph using my Canon Powershot A550
Taken on a most unusual beach in Swansea, Tasmania. Half the beach was covered with pebbles…the other half golden sand. It was quite deserted and beautiful. Image taken using my Canon Powershot A550
These wonderful birds were taken at Swansea Heads. They looked like they were having a meeting. I can see that the seagull on the left is doing all the talking. Taken on my Kodak Z8612IS on the auto setting and zoomed in. Auto correction was applied in Picture manager which has lightened it a little. Thanks for visiting, cheer- Valerie
Murrays beach A beautiful drive only 90 minutes north of Sydney and 30 minutes south of – close to Swansea. / It’s not particularly isolated, but it’s at the very end of Beecroft Peninsula. / The sand is whiter, looking at Bowen Island and to the right is Greenpatch
Another image of a jet skier skylarking in the waves on Swansea Channel. This image was taken from the Blacksmiths’ breakwall and is an excellent position to shoot some action at the mouth of Lake Macquarie. /
This image was shot from the northern breakwall on the Blacksmiths side of Swansea Channel. The Dixon Park Surf Boat Crew were going through their paces in practice for the surfing season and the competitions that come with it. They were refining their skills for the upcoming Coffs Harbour event and from what I saw I could understand why they were winners at this sport. / /

Taken a couple of weeks ago on our one and only snow day in Swansea! While the rest of the country struggled through the blizzards, Swansea got away fairly lightly.
