  • Summer, Day, Dream.
    by Mark Hayward

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Have managed this summer to get out there and surf a bit. Lately just me, my board and my camera down the coast, tenting it and basically taking time out for myself. After a few hours in the water you get this kind of fuzzy peaceful feeling inside, equal parts exhaustion and elation. I love that headspace of daydreaming, and find it a really inspirational state for visual ideas to come to the surface.

  • Sometimes faeries take humans away to beautiful, magical places but sometimes, the places they take us are dark and not so beautiful. This was done for a project themed “Fear’s Playground.” It’s based on a nightmare I had a few years ago where this malevolent nixie was terrorizing a small town and killing off young men. The dream started with her drowning a surfer so that’s the scene I illustrated here. It was actually a rather terrifying dream—I guess because I have such a strong fear of drowning.

  • Ride Like the Wind is a card from the Beach Series and Inspired Series by Karin Taylor….. / in the dark of night she escapes suburbia to find the giant swell of the rolling ocean beckoning her from the shoreline…..she notices a makeshift board on the edge, where the waves ebb and flow in a cheeky hello…....bracing herself, she skims the board through the shallows and onto the wave, which picks her up as though it were cradling her in it’s arms, throws her forward and there she stands in all her glory, the moonlight guiding her way to another land, where in the soft glow of the morning light ~ life will be gentler, people kinder and her heart can mend….... Ride Like the Wind is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper / inkpastelacryliccharcoal~heart /

  • Patience is a Virtue
    by Rae Threnoworth

    US$4.28–US$114.00

I was down at Newcastle Beach this morning because I woke up to see a big swell pumping through Merewether but it just wasn’t performing.. so I decided to explore other parts of Newcastle which I’ve never bothered to photograph before. I was set up with my 500mm lens to get some surfing photographs, but due to the salty mist (making it difficult to see and focus) and my low placement (couldnt really see the wave if a wave had just broken in front of it), it wasn’t ideal for any decent surfing photographs. There were only a few decent waves coming through anyway which were actually being ridden, some were a bit too fat or shutting down too soon. So I swivled my gigantic lens around to see these guys waiting patiently to jump off the rocks into the surf. With the low sun, it created some beautiful back lighting perfect for silhouettes.
