On a cold Autumn morning, Blackgate Road disappears into the mist that has settled.

The golden tones of a fresh new day are reflected in the sands, the rocks and the high cliffs at “Steps Beach”, a popular, but remote surfing spot on the Surfcoast of Victoria, Australia.
-
This poor windmill has suffered the ravages of time and weather and has taken it’s final bow, never to work again.
-
Rocks lay strewn on the beach below the cliff face at Bird Rock on the Great Ocean Road, the result of years of erosion, day in and day out, little by little by the constant change of the daily tides or the ravages of the pounding seas and waves!!
-
The warm tones of the sunrise are reflected in the sand and cliffs of “Boobs”, a relatively inaccessible surfing beach, on the Surfcoast of Victoria.
-
The receding tide and the tones of the early morning sun reveal the beautiful patterns created in the sand at “Steps” surfing beach.

As I was perched on this ledge taking this shot, with the cliff towering and curling over me, I was reminded of the verse of Scripture: Psalm 46:1 / God is our refuge and strength, / A very present help in times of trouble.

On a winter’s day, the Barwon Heads Golf Club clubhouse is a real beacon for cold and shivering golfers.

A great spot for forgiving waves. I remember surfing here when I was a kid. In those days we would drive mum’s mini 850 down onto the beach, pitch a tent above the high water line and stay for a few days until the food ran out. We usually had the beach to ourselves. One of the first panos I ever did. I still love it, mainly because I managed to keep the seagull in the finished shot. The beach has many memories for me because I have been living/holidaying here since 1948. Go boomers!

The beautiful warm tones of the sunset are reflected in the rocks and sand at the popular surfing beach of Pt Impossible.

Taken from Hurst’s Hut at the Eumeralla Scout Camp on one of the clearest days for some time. You can see the Split Point Lighthouse at Aireys Inlet.

I originally took this for the angry sky. It was taken at dusk when all the golfers had retired for the day to the nineteenth hole. I went back a few days later and got the golfers. There are two (similar) glaring errors in this pic. If you are a golfer, you’ll probably pick them pretty quickly.

I just loved the colors and the lucky composition.

Protected by members of the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club, this beach is a popular destination for families.

A bit of history here… soon after I took this photo, the jetty was removed and a new walkway installed.

Originally a black and white… a little work with layers and levels. This image is the final before printing and stretching on canvas.
