Wilsons Promontory – ‘The Prom’, 2008 Have managed this summer to get out there and surf a bit. Lately just me, my board and my camera down the coast, tenting it and basically taking time out for myself. After a few hours in the water you get this kind of fuzzy peaceful feeling inside, equal parts exhaustion and elation. I love that headspace of daydreaming, and find it a really inspirational state for visual ideas to come to the surface.

Simple vector Illustrator artwork. Thick, fat surfboards have more buoyancy, paddle better, and make it easier to catch more waves.
This image started life as an ink line drawing, then I traced it into Illustrator, and then softened it to make it look like stencil street art.
A retro-inspired classic surfboard logo from the sixties. As a background, I’ve used the colour and texture from my own McTavish Egg surfboard, and then added the vector hand-adapted lettering.
I drew this board up as a design for a custom swallowtail gun. I haven’t got the board yet, but at least I can have the teeshirt. The lettering was originally hand-drawn, but now it’s all vector artwork.
Vector art, showing the Navy’s newest secret weapon, which creeps around under the surface of our busiest Australian surf spots, keeping a watchful eye out for miscreants.
A beautiful California sunset silhouettes one of California’s surfers. Reminds me of my son who loved the sport when he was younger. Taken at a San Diego beach. Canon D40.
A candid shot of my son out in the surf waiting for the next wave. Taken at Cottesloe Beach, Perth, Western Australia / Camera – Nikon D90 Made it into the ‘Popular Art & Photography’ Pages – 1 day
