A sole stranger makes his way home from the port in San Sebastian, as the setting sun drenches us both.
Sydney, is the capital city of the State of New South Wales, Australia. Currently the home to some 4 million people, spread over approximately 700 klms. But when an Australian thinks about Sydney it is only the excitement and electricity that Sydney Habour can generate that reminds them of home. The glorious sun drenched Habour opens its visitors up to a world of discovery. From its easily accessible surf beaches, famous waterfront Opera House, The Sydney Habour Bridge, the annual Sydney to Hobart yacht race, its Ferries, trains, buses, Botanical garden, Hyde Park trees and statue water fountain, the Art Gallery, Aquarium and Zoo – it is every child’s (and adults) playground. Born in Sydney, I grew up in with the excitement of Sydney etched into the very pores of my skin. I have swum on every beach, and spent many hours catching the trains and sandy floored buses to every place and space I wanted to go. The Archibald Prize exhibition was a favourite, the music concerts, theatre, ballet, pantomime, parades, catching the big old wooden Manly Ferry on rough and wild windy day are just of a few memories. I can’t count the days I spent lying like a lizard in the sun, on a beach towel, listening to my little red AM transistor radio blasting out The Beach Boys, just watching the young bronze brown and bleach dyed blonde surfy guys run past carrying their boards. I used to get whistles then – Ahh the memories. I like my Sydney have changed, but the excitement never leaves you – that is the magic of Sydney. PS It never snows in Sydney, but it does rain and sometimes hails, so this is my attempt to create a symbolic representation of Sydney Habour in a ‘Sunshower Dome’. I hope you enjoy it / Skippygirlgraphics, Hillwood, Tasmania, Australia
