Just driving around one night after work amazed by the reflection of the sun off the wheat stalks :)
For many of us, boats hold a special magic; the promise of adventure, freedom or just a good day fishing. This jukong was resting on the shores of Home Island, Cocos Islands. A calm and quite moment, yet I’m sure this boat could tell a tale or two of the sea, the elements and the people it has carried. Home Island, Cocos Islands, Australia
This was another shot from the other day at Sunset. I really wanted to bring out the amazing colors of the sunset and shooting directly at the sun was hard to get a good exposure especially with the standard canon kit lens I was getting a fair bit of lens flare (Cant wait till I my Sigma 10 -20 mm lens). So I bracketed 3 different exposures all 2 stops apart. I used a cokin ND grad filter to try to keep some of the color in the fore ground. / I really liked the contrasting colors in this shot and the tree made a nice Silhouette I then used Photomatrix pro to convert the 3 images into a HDR . Final curves and sat were done in PhotoShop.
Hi all, / Well here’s my first entry to the site. It was taken after work one night at Dampier near Karratha, WA. During the 3 weeks I was working over there through December, this was the only time I saw a decent cloud formation (any cloud!) around the time of sunset o’clock. So I raced down to the foreshore (we get back from work at 7:30pm, so it was a race!) and searched for any decent vantage point. / Anyway, I felt this one turned out as planned so thought I’d start with something fairly recent. / I’m still quite ‘green’ to the game and I’ve got so much to learn judging from the quality & level of art I’ve seen so far on this site… Therefore any feedback on my entries would be greatly appreciated…good or bad. / Thanks, Matt.
Here’s another shot from Dampier…a small coastal oasis on the Eastern side of the Burrup Peninsula in Northern WA, Australia during a windy sunset..
Here’s a favourite of mine from way back… (well, about 17 months to be precise). / Taking photos in the few small moments off here while I was working was one of the few joys I received over a couple of months and was quite happy with my takings from just one night, (same sunset I shot ‘Dancing Dampier Palms’). / Probably my first successful decent shoot of a sunset…so at the same time, this inspired me and has made me keen to improve since. Taken from the shores of Dampier in the Pilbarra region, Northern WA, Oz. Thanks for any looks &/or comments… / Cheers, / Matt.

The Shark Bay Sunset Pelican Parade happens each evening, as the pelicans pack cruises close to the shoreline of Monkey Mia. Their dusk swim coincides with the return of the fishermen, who then clean their days catch on the beach. The pelicans approach in the hope of receiving a tidbit. Some see them as nuisances, but they are forever graceful and comical – and not shy when it comes to trying to snatch some fish! Taken at sunset in Monkey Mia, Shark Bay, Western Australia. Taken with a Canon 5D, 100-400mm L Series Lens @ 130mm, f5.6, 1/125th sec, ISO 1600, handheld. As is – the vignetting is natural, caused by the light subsiding around the bright sun. I have always loved Sea urchins and have always collected them from when i was a child right up into adulthood. They would be the first thing I would look for when I got out of my car and my feet hit the sand on the beach. Suprisingly there arent that many to be found anymore on the beach where I have always gone to find them. sony ax 300 SLR 70 – 200ml lense.
