extreme sunset reflections

Dawn at Garie Beach, Royal National Park just south of Sydney, Australia. A seagull very obligingly flew into shot as I was taking this. Can you spot the silhouetted fishermen? / I’m lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen – it’s only a little national park (14,000 ha) but the variety of stuff to photograph is simply endlessly inspiring. This is Tanah Lot Temple in Bali, the tide is currently out. When the tide is in the ocean surrounds the temple like an island. I used a torch to highlight the water when I shot this giving a certain glow. This is one image shot in raw, reproduced 3 versions in lightroom… a light, mid and a dark tone. then combined in photoshop

Sunrise at Kingscote Kangaroo Island, over jetty remains along the foreshore. Nature, the waves and weather slowly eroding the last reminders of days past. The site can be located opposite the Hospital heading towards Reeves Point at Kingscote. HDR using photomatix. Canon 400D with polarising filter.

Surfing just before dawn. The water color comes from the dawn light reflecting off high clouds in the sky. Canon 1Ds Mark II / 600 mm focal length / 1/15 second / f/4 / ISO 50 Panning and trying to keep the surfer in one spot in the frame produces the fluidity and quality to the water.

Couldn’t resist another visit to Bell’s Beach at dawn this morning to have another crack at the huge surf – and I wasn’t disappointed! It was still powering away. / No HDR tweaking – just some levels adjustment and slight colour correction. Mother Nature did the rest. / Nikon D300 with 70-200 1:2.8G lens and 1.7x extender. /

Warn limestone blocks in the North Bay at Kaikoura on New Zealand’s South Island, carved smooth by the sea. i shot this just as the dawn started, its very very calm, or so it seam, a wave had crashed in and rushed back, this is a 25 second exposure, chek out the gull on the rock to the right, it didn’t move! Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Nikkor Lens, ND 4 soft Grad, tripod with weighted bags.
