  • Birkenhead docks used to be a bustling place, boats coming and going, off loading and loading up, dock workers and cranes running up and down. Now it’s derelict with only signs of it’s former life. Soon life will recover and developers will move in and take over. Oh what fun.

  • A sunken ship moored in Birkenhead docks. This has been given the ‘lomo’ treatment in photoshop.

  • This semi submerged vessel was spotted as we drove into the heart of the Scottish highlands. A few days later it was still in the same state on the return trip. I couldn’t pass over the opportunity to take capture it, and I’ve chosen a desaturated look to suit the theme.

  • One of my first experiments with Photoshop. I first scanned a leaf and then added some effects. Finalist at the Third Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest 2005 in the Altered Images category

  • Boat beached at Pembroke Dock ,Pembrokeshire,South Wales,UK

  • Black and white photo of a rusted out sunken ship. The deck of the ship is covered by a colony of sea lions. The ship sits in the harbor in Ensenada, Mexico.

  • I saw some pictures of these boats on another site and I had to go there to capture them in infrared. It was well worth the hour long drive.

  • A ship? / Maybe… Approx. 30s exposure / 10mm@f10

  • wrong place wrong time for a sit down in a paranoid society fuelled by media fear-monger presentations of prowling sickos lurking at every turn. Percy here just sat down for a rest and found himself on a watchlist

  • I was taking a walk at the local reservoir (in Gorton, Manchester) today, which they happen to be draining (either that or someone’s been wasting all the lovely rain we’ve had in the last 3 months). / So how could I pass up the opportunity to photograph this beautiful rusty car which had clearly been there for quite some time. Crazy place to find it, but the ducks seemed to be enjoying it’s company :)

  • We had a dramatic thunderstorm and torrential rain during the previous evening. Next morning, we found this little boat sunk in the crystal clear waters in the bay of Nimborio on the Greek Island of Halki. It had filled with water during the storm. Halki is a small yet very charming island in the Dodecanese that is situated opposite the west coast of Rhodes. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix. BEST VIEWED LARGER Related shots can be found at Halki or Greece or Eastern Meditteranean.

  • At the depth he could do little, / but hold his lamp towards the beast / holding his last breath / and hoping for the best The fifth of my notebook series. This time in a t-shirt.

  • This is what it looked today on the eastern coast of Newfoundland. The winds have shifted and brought with them all the pack ice that normally stays far out to sea. The ice has trapped many fishing vessles in it chilly grasp. Coast Guard Icebreakers such as this one are sent out to cut a swath through the ice to free the sticken vessels before the ice crushes in their hulls and ultimately sinks them. This icebreaker is just returning to port. / / As I was taking this shot, a person wandered into the frame in the upper left. I thought they made for good scale. / / Hope you all enjoy this one. In the next couple weeks the icebergs will start drifting down from Greenland. I can’t wait for those.

  • This old sailing vessel called ‘Buster” was wrecked on Woolgoolga beach back in feb 1893….she was a wooden Barquentine…a three masts vessel, square rigged on the foremast…305 tons…measuring 129×31x12 ft Built in Nova Scova in 1884….her bottom was sheathed in Muntz metal…an alloy of 60% copper,40% zinc…which was later removed by some of the locals!!! ....it was anchored off the then Jetty…a newly declared Wharf in 1892..the jetty was off timber construction 1,561 ‘feet’ long.. 32 feet wide..there was a large shed constructed on it as well as a 5 ton steam crane, tramway platform, tramlines and trollies…for the loading of fine timbers that were plentiful in the surrounding bush and horse or bullock team driven through the town and onto the beach to the jetty and awaiting ships….well…the Buster was anchored for the night ready to load in the morning..when the weather turned nasty and she was blown and eventually beached herself just north of Woolgoolga…apparently it took quiet awhile for her to settle permanently in her resting place….after all the recent big seas we’ve had she’s became uncovered again…I’ve only ever seen a small piece of wood protruding through the sand before…so was ‘stocked’ to see soooo much now visable….raced up the beach yesterday during lunch break from doing the kids canteen…only had time to snap about 20 quick images and I had to leave…Ohhh Nooo!! LOL…the timber was just awesome!!!!!! DebsPhotos

  • I’ve been a bit absent lately, due to a lack of inspiration. Actually, I felt like this picture. Bleak and sad, because the summer is definitely gone. Picture was taken in Corr na Móna. One of the Gaeltacht (=Irish speaking) villages in Connemara, co. Galway. There is a tiny harbour at the cross roads by the river, and these boats lying there were suffering from the weather as well. Let’s hope they survive until spring arrives!!! PP: Contrast, levels, dodge/burn, texture for the sky which was really dull and grey.
