“Sunflower” is a part of the floral collection. Watercolour and pen and ink on cartridge paper…
The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant native to the Americas in the family Asteraceae. What is usually called the flower is actually a head of numerous flowers crowded together. The florets within this cluster are arranged spirally. Typically each floret is oriented toward the next by approximately the golden angle, producing a pattern of interconnecting spirals where the number of left spirals and the number of right spirals are successive Fibonacci numbers. At sunrise, the faces of most sunflowers are turned towards the east. Over the course of the day, they move to track the sun from east to west, while at night they return to an eastward orientation.

My beautiful girlfriends beautiful flower at dawn.
The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant in the family Asteraceae and native to the Americas, with a large flowering head (inflorescence). The stem can grow as high as 3 metres, and the flower head can reach 30 cm in diameter with the “large” seeds. The term “sunflower” is also used to refer to all plants of the genus Helianthus, many of which are perennial plants. What is usually called the flower is actually a head (formally composite flower) of numerous florets (small flowers) crowded together. The outer florets are the sterile ray florets and can be yellow, maroon, orange, or other colors. The florets inside the circular head are called disc florets, which mature into what are traditionally called “sunflower seeds,” but are actually the fruit (an achene) of the plant. The inedible husk is the wall of the fruit and the true seed lies within the kernel. The florets within the sunflower’s cluster are arranged in a spiraling pattern. Typically each floret is oriented toward the next by approximately the golden angle, producing a pattern of interconnecting spirals where the number of left spirals and the number of right spirals are successive Fibonacci numbers. Typically, there are 34 spirals in 1 direction and 55 in the other; on a very large sunflower you may see 89 in one direction and 144 in the other. source: wikipedia

I love sunflowers, I am a Leo and the sunflower is the flower closest to my astrology sign. / This is a newly opened sunflower in all of it’s glory and I chose to use the flood filter, without any wave action to mirror it’s magnificence. Whenever I see sunflowers, their little centers look like happiness to me. They always make me smile. I had several in a small bouquet and moved them this way and that to see what textures and colors would pop. Did you know sunflowers are used to make so many things? They provide humans and animals with food in the form of seeds and oil. The leaves are used as fodder, the flowers yield a yellow dye, and the seeds contain oil and are used for food. The oil is used for cooking, as an ingredient of soaps and paints, and as a lubricant. WOW! What a wonderful little plant. ;o) Still life, Mission Viejo, CA, USA.
