HDR really highlighting the full gammut of tones in this shot. Quite a big thunderstom building on the horizon…It was almost dark when I was packing up to leave and cop a big stike out of the corner of my eye…so it’s set up again take a heap of long exposures trying to capture those strikes….thanks for looking…Rob.

What do you call the light that permanently imprints itself into the deepest corner of your cerebral real estate? Just a memorable one, divine, sublime? The star was going down fast, as it was just a matter of ‘to get it over and done with‘ a daily sunset routine – until that moment. Like it was switched on by some all powerful hand residing somewhere in the center of a kingdom of light, the sunbeam reached across the valley, bringing all the associated attributes with it, like joy and warmth, just for a few moments, before disappearing altogether. The blue cold haze drowned the beautiful Hawkes Bay valley, but not before the last ray of sun got there first. I was standing in awe … for a while in fact, still in disbelief. Review button and LCD screen confirmed it did happen. Sweet. I’ll treasure selfishly the melody of breeze passing through the treetops, the smell of golden grass and feel of fallen leafs under my feet. Not to worry, I left something to share with you. Here it is.

Part of my Egret Series. This is a compilation. The sunset was taken on 09-27-08 in Arizona. The egret was blended into the image along with the water (flood plugin) and the rock was created using the pen tool and shading. Fractalius was applied to both images prior to blending. Late evening sunset near Cowell on the Eyre Peninsula – South Australia. The highest thing on the road side where a small bunch of thistle heads that looked liked small palm trees sitting up into the sky. Canon 400D, 18-55 with CIR Polarising filter.

A favourite spot for photographers and it is rare to visit on a night without running into others with cameras!!! Canon 400D 18-55 lens with CIR Polarising filter. Converted in Photoshop CS3.
