The idea of sacred space has been one of the foundations of Native American philosophy throughout time. We see all life-forms as having their own life cycles, from the Stone (rock) people, to a Cloud person, or to a Standing (tree) person ~ they all have a space that deserves respect. Every creature being has its own territory and respects the territory of other animals. Two-leggeds (humans) also have a personal space that, if respected, becomes Sacred Space. This Mandala was created to represent ‘Sacred Space’ on the Blue Road to Spirit… teepees (home/shelter) in the cardinal directions: White/North; Yellow/East; Red/South; and Black/West (also symbolic of the 4 races). Day skies & Night skies, cloud people, thunder/lightening beings, standing people, mountains, sun and moon. Arrows of respectful friendship and feathers for the gift of respect. Sketch was photographed and painted, edited and filtered in Redfield Plug-in Fractilius, in photoshop7. Just taking a brief break from Africa. I took this on a road trip through Arizona. It reminded me a bit of outback Australia. This is the famous Monument Valley where John Ford shot many classic John Wayne westerns. Classic cowboy country,
An acrylic painting on paper of a glorious, radiant Sundance Rose. It has deep golden buds and when they burst open into full flower the petals brighten into a brilliant sun like gold. I painted this for a dear friend of mine for her birthday. A Rose for you when you are feeling blue, / It will make you happy I know this is true. / Its smell will delight as you inhale its perfume / And your eyes will light up and your smile will bloom! This is an image that I worked on a while, to make it have the feel that I wanted it to have! Sometimes the sun beams down, and thought this caught it dancing on some of the flowers in this shot! Its just an artistic expression, and hope You enjoy what I come up with!
Gaillardia pulchella (Firewheel, Indian Blanket, Indian Blanketflower, or Sundance), is a short-lived annual flowering plant native to the central United States. The branching stem of this plant is hairy and upright, growing to 60 cm (2 ft) tall. The leaves are alternate, mostly basal, 4-8 cm long, with edges smooth to coarsely toothed or lobed. The pinwheel, daisy-like inflorescences are 4-6 cm diameter, vividly colored with red, orange and yellow. The central disc florets of the flower head tend to be more red-violet, with the outer ray floretsbeing yellow. In one variety, almost the entire flower is red, with only the barest tips of the petals touched with yellow. It blooms practically year-round in some areas, but more typically in summer to early fall. The seed is an achene. It is a hardy plant, not picky about soil, though sandy and well-drained are best. It has a high drought tolerance and does best with a dry, hot climate in full sun. Its vibrant colored flowers can be seen carpeting fields and the sides of highways for miles in the summer to late fall. This flower thrives in much of the central United States, all the way from northern Mexico to southern Canada. It is the state wildflower of Oklahoma. I was so excited to find this one along a fenceline by the woods near my home in northeast Iowa – - – so vibrant and beautiful!!!!! Photo taken As Is using my Canon PowerShot S2 IS.

Featured in The Wild West Show June 2009 Featured in Art & Stories made for Children June 2009 “Sundancer” / original acrylics painting 2003 i believe this is Shoshone “fancy dancer” traditional wear. / this is one of my native american paintings honoring the Native American the headdress is made of black bear hide and fur and porcupine quills. at the time i painted this i did not have a fine sable brush otherwise the porcupine quill points would have been thinner, still i like it the way it is. :)) the dancer wears leather hand-made and hand-beaded clothing, with his “tail” dress in eagles feathers, his “rattle fan” is handcrafted in leather and beads with bones sewn inside to create sounds when shaken. natural pigments were used to colour fabrics as well as senew. His calves are covered in feathers and leather. The Sun God is brilliant and many bolts of Lightning are flashing in the sky as the Sun is responding to his prayers and dancing. The sky is bursting out of the sun. Abstract Impressionist Art 12×16 inches / 30.5×40.6 cm / primed coated textured canvas paper / 10 Feuilles Couchè here are some detail fotos: /
