Canon 20D – 17-40mm L – 17mm – 1s – f/11 Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Upper Antelope Canyon, called Tse bighanilini, “the place where water runs through rocks” by the Navajo, is the most frequently visited by tourists, due to two considerations. First, its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Second, beams (shafts of direct sunlight radiating down from openings in the top of the canyon) are much more common in Upper than in Lower. Beams occur most often in the summer months, as they require the sun to be high in the sky. / In the same series: / / /

In the Moment /// Overall Visual Art Winner / I found myself in Geneva for a week for work last year. The only other time I had been to Switzerland was Zurich for 2 nights in the middle of winter, so I was kind of surprised by the beautiful (and hot!) summer weather I experienced on this visit. / The Lake at Geneva is where everyone goes to cool off and I was mesmerised watching all these crazy dudes doing amazing things off a high-dive on the edge of the lake. I took a few shots and managed to capture this moment among them. / I entered this work into the 2007 Linden Gallery Post Card Show in St.Kilda, and was absolutely stoked to have been awarded one of the six entries to be reproduced as postcards and sold through the gallery.

I do love having a small patch of Blue Mountains sub tropical rainforest within 15 minutes walk from my house in Hazelbrook….. / I couldn’t work out what to do with this shot, there was soooo much green in it that the subject was lost. / My lovely wife saw it and suggested I select the colour only in the sun’s rays…...

A double layers. / Friends at last ,they meet on the cosy clouds and stay friends forever. / This idea came to me from a song that my mother used to sing when I was young about a rendez-vous between the moon and the sun that never happenned because the two of them were always waiting for one another. / «Le soleil a rendez-vous avec la lune mais la lune n’est pas là et le soleil l’attend »

In a magical moment between night and day, there is a special place and time. The time between seconds, when light and dark both have equal play. / So quick, so fleeting, this special time. / The blink of an eye and it is gone again. / The catch of a breath in the cold morning air, this special time between. / It is my passion to capture this time. / To freeze it and hold it forever. / An endless journey, an endless quest. / This one small moment in time. / Deri Dority 2007
