  • Burn / Original photography by Alys Griffiths.

  • A cool shot I made ‘cooler’ I hope by adding some effects. The sun creeping through the trees on this winter day is really wild to me.

  • I think the trees, lighting, and river water has made a stunning combination on this particular day’ what with great reflections, sun beams, and water colour hope you enjoy it as much as I did (-:

  • Hidden in the depths of the woods this little chapel lies sleeping in the sun. Unfortunately the chapel is private and no-one is allowed in to see it … I would love to see the inside.

  • The setting sunlight cut through a gap in the trees and seemed to be inviting me to sit and watch it sink below the horizon. /

  • Tree bark in Tokyo. I saw a figure in it, very small, praying on the edge of a precipice. I dodged the area around it to highlight what I saw. A little photoshopping for levels and contrast.

  • When everything is dark and scary, there always comes a time when a thin ray of light will try to seep in and bring hope. We can choose to retreat further into a dark corner, or to let the light in and shine on our lives. Shot in aperture priority / Focal length 38mm / ISO-100 / Aperture f/6,3 / Shutter 1/2 sec. • Crepuscular rays can appear when the clouds (or terrain) that are responsible for the rays are below the horizon. The so-called crepuscular rays are solar rays cast on the purple red, while the sun is below the observer’s horizon, and sometimes span the entire twilight sky towards the Earth’s shadow band (the twilight wedge). If the purple red is obvious, look for these uncommon rays fanning out of the horizon. A amazing and rare sight, With the rays of light beaming up from the horizon and right up into the sky as you can see in this shot. EOS 500D. • Yorkshire, UK / CANON Digital IXUS 980 IS / HDR Yorkshire, UK / Fountains Abbey was founded in 1132 following a dispute and riot at St Mary’s Abbey in York. Following the riot, thirteen monks were exiled and after unsuccessfully attempting to return to the early 6th century Rule of St Benedict, were taken into the protection of Thurstan, Archbishop of York. He provided them with a site in the valley of the River Skell. The enclosed valley had all the required materials for the creation of a monastery, providing shelter from the weather, stone and timber for building, and a running supply of water. The monks applied to join the Cistercian order in 1132. / The abbey operated for over 400 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
