Featured in Impressionist Art June 2009 / Featured in Fine Arts 27 June 2009 / Featured in Freedom in Words & ART June 2009 early one morning i waked from a dream with this image in my mind. i was in the sea and the colours were vibrant and brilliant – the world was so surreal i got out of my bed and immediately began painting this work. after about 5 hours i set my paintbrushes down. the painting stayed untouched for several years. one day i felt compelled to paint the image of the horse glowing in bright light. there is a native american flavour. while i am only 1/4 native american, i am strongly and inherently influenced by my native heritage “the eternal sea” is my self-portrait / started in 2000 finished in 2004 multi-media / Acrylics / Acrylic Laquers / Acrylic Enamels / Glitter Gels / Acrylic Metallics 20×16 inches / premium canvas panel

“Red Door” This wonderful red door is the entry to one of the oldest historic churches on the island of Maui, Hawai’i, / Kana’io Church Built in 1907, the people carried lava rocks and coral from the shores and beaches many miles hand to hand up the hills to a site on the mountain in the upcountry where they constructed this church. I understand that this door and its doorframe are built out of Sandlewood. I visited my sister and her husband on the island of Maui from / 1 May 2009 through 18 May 2009 and had the delightful opportunity to visit this church and its gardens. © 2009 Karon Melillo d’Vega / All rights reserved

  • this beauty flew right past me and landed in the Mirabelle plum tree to drink the nectar from the spring blossoms. this is not a zoom foto, i was standing next to this butterfly taking pictures of it. so amazing that it would travel over thousands of miles of mountains, prairies and valleys to find my plum trees. i’ve read this variety of butterfly is normally seen in northeastern United States and southeastern Canada. for it to find its way to northwestern Montana during the short spring season and find these blossoming trees to me is fantastic. Mirabelle is a French Golden Plum

  • Featured in Those Colorful Paints July 2009 / Featured in Mature Men July 2009 / Featured in The Wild West Show June 2009 / Featured in Montana – The Treasure State June 2009 “I’m still a wild indian” is the original title to my painting. / influenced by media, at some point and time i did call this “The Quest”, but in all reality this is the original title i gave this painting. and since the Native Americans i know personally do not have a problem with my title, i’m going to go with it for freedom of expression. “I’m still a wild indian” has always been my original title to my painting. Represents all that is natural and free Original acrylics painting 2006 / this painting took me almost 3 years to complete. / primarily because i would work on it for weeks and months and then leave it for months and even a year while i worked on other projects. finally satisfied, i signed and dated it. Here in Montana we have several First Nations tribes. I have personally shown my painting to elders of the Blackfeet Nation, Cheyenne Nation, and Shoshone Nation (which is not of Montana, however there are many Shoshone living here in this state). Anyway, i loved all of their responses upon viewing my painting. Most notable comment: “Oh my god you have painted him riding old style” this personal comment said to me by a Blackfoot Native American and in the presence of a Cheyenne Native American who verbally agreed with him, really meant a lot to me because this indeed was my effort to paint the Indian riding “old style” in his loin cloth without saddle or bridle. The Painted Horse is wearing a handcrafted halter and reins, and yet the reins are free and there is no bit The Warrior and his Painted Horse wear the same war paint on their eyes signifying their unity in spirit. Together unified in spirit and quest they continue on their journey to seek the truth and in search of adventure and conquest.

  • The Encounter
    by Karön Melillo d'Vega

    US$4.99–US$114.00

Featured in Landscape Painting July 2009 “The Encounter” i have actually given two titles, the other title is “painting outside the frame” ... one of my original concepts. firstly, the 14×18 inch canvas panel is placed inside a solid Maple wood frame. The painting was started in the year 2003 and finished in 2008. i worked on it and left it set aside many times over the years while i pursued other painting projects. turning the painting upside down and sideways sometimes to paint from different perspectives gave the painting so much texture. incredibly thick and heavy with acrylic paints. Original Acrylic Painting i have actually experienced encounters like this with Black Bear while fishing the creeks in the wilderness mountains of northwestern Montana. The scene of course is from my imagination, and i have imagined the encounter with a Grizzly Bear which if (of course) that encounter had happened i would not have lived through it to paint this landscape. Abstract Impressionist Art here is a foto of my painting showing the frame:

  • hummingbird
    by Karön Melillo d'Vega

    US$4.99–US$114.00

i captured this little beauty at my friends house in Huntington Beach California. we were outside having coffee on their backyard patio while all the delightful hummingbirds were flying around us and feeding from this beautiful feeder which was purchased from National Geographic gift shop December 2007

  • “Battle for Dominance” is an acrylics painting i did on an antique saw blade in 2005 this saw blade is large and heavy, measuring approximately 62 inches circumference and weighs 4 pounds. the points are very sharp, and it has embedded scratches in it from its use in a sawmill. i painted this scene of two Rocky Mountain Elk bulls battling for dominance. These patriarchs will fight a tremendously powerful fight, and the winner will be honored by all the elk of both sexes of all ages in the herd. The winning bull will be the only bull to breed all the cows in his harem. And he will reign as the king for as long as no other bull challenges him, and until another bull conquers him. Some bulls die in battle as a result of being gored by the massive antlers. and sometimes, rarely, the bulls antlers will lock together and both bulls die because they are unable to separate themselves. when this happens it is most tragic, as the bulls die of either starvation or are killed by predators as the bulls are unable to defend themselves. this is my painting in honor of the Elk / i hope you like it

  • Sundancer
    by Karön Melillo d'Vega

    US$5.65–US$129.20

Featured in The Wild West Show June 2009 Featured in Art & Stories made for Children June 2009 “Sundancer” / original acrylics painting 2003 i believe this is Shoshone “fancy dancer” traditional wear. / this is one of my native american paintings honoring the Native American the headdress is made of black bear hide and fur and porcupine quills. at the time i painted this i did not have a fine sable brush otherwise the porcupine quill points would have been thinner, still i like it the way it is. :)) the dancer wears leather hand-made and hand-beaded clothing, with his “tail” dress in eagles feathers, his “rattle fan” is handcrafted in leather and beads with bones sewn inside to create sounds when shaken. natural pigments were used to colour fabrics as well as senew. His calves are covered in feathers and leather. The Sun God is brilliant and many bolts of Lightning are flashing in the sky as the Sun is responding to his prayers and dancing. The sky is bursting out of the sun. Abstract Impressionist Art 12×16 inches / 30.5×40.6 cm / primed coated textured canvas paper / 10 Feuilles Couchè here are some detail fotos: /
