Most of the windows in this place were either cracked, broken or completely removed. It made for some eerie nosies when walking about in the place with the wind rattling through and the curtains flapping about etc.

Dissection is cruel and unnecessary. With the alternative methods available today, schools can save thousands of dollars AND thousands of lives. Some things to consider are psychological impact, education, animal welfare, environment, cost, and chemical exposure. / / ALL proceeds will be donated to the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine. / / “To go against the dominant thinking of your friends, of most of the people you see every day, is perhaps the most difficult act of heroism you can have.” / ~ Theodore H. White, American political writer (1915-1986)

Striking artistic representation of how the flow of technology advances is viewed by the artistic mind. The view is horrible and huge.

This is the view walking up the main driveway of this abandoned boarding school, i wonder how many kids were unhappy to be taken along this route and left by their parents at the start of the term.

Probably one of the oldest artworks I’ve got up here… done in my second year of uni. Just three of my mates. But this is uniquely one of only 3 actual oil paintings I’ve ever done, on masonite. I always found oils difficult and still do, hence the fussy detail and lack of confidence with the medium. But I intend to have another go this year, maybe on a larger canvas.

I tutor children who are having trouble keeping up in school, and are failing. I received this beautiful hand- made card from one of my students tonight. This little fellow was failing when we started tutoring. On his last report card he had three As. I’m very proud of his progress.

Just a quick in between thing again. This basically shows what I’m going through right now. Except I’m not a guy. And I actually study on my bed, on the couch, in the living room… =P But yes, this is the student life, at least during exam period. Pencil drawing. Background and textures added in Photoshop, as well as the slight shading. Colours appear a bit different here (less red) than they did in Photoshop, but oh well. =)

Acrylic on Wood (32” X 23”) – I began this after the Columbine tragedy in 1999. Attempting to portray the grim reality of many of our youth nowadays. To illustrate the growing need for all of us recognize the ills that continues to permeate throughout our schools. To urge those in position to make a difference to become more aware of the dark and profoundly disturbed psychological makeup of a certain breed of students who continue to conclude there is no escape but through senseless violence. Government leaders, (national and local), school administrators and counselors, classmates and parents – need to increase their vigilance and devote more time and energy towards developing a deeper understanding of the unseen pressures, destructive influences, and sometimes traumatic circumstances which challenge much of our youth today.

PRETTY & SMART – Detail from an oil self-portrait on board, by Albrecht Durer. / A German painter, engraver and mathematician. Famous for his print series: / Apocalypse / Passion of Christ / Knight, Death, & the Devil / Melencolia / Four Horsement of the Apocalypse / The Rhinoceros. Third child in a family of eighteen children, of Hungarian father, German mother. Traveler and student, goldsmith, Durer became the most successful publisher in Germany and abroad, owning 24 printing presses at one time, incredibly famous in his early twenties. Painter, watercolorist, etcher, woodblock print maker. / He published the “Nuremberg Chronicle” in1493 with over 1800 woodcut illustrations. He didn’t think painting could earn him enough money (still true five hundred years later), and turned to printing. / Scholar, intelectual, and successful businessman, his engravings and prints affected the giants who came after him: Raphael, Titian, and Rembrandt.

Sorry folks, I can’t help myself – feeling happy. Just received my final assessment for my Freelance Photography course with Thomson Education Direct – it was an A. I achieved ten straight A’s for the course and I’m rapt. I didn’t take an easy way out when doing my assignments. I did more than required and that has been recognised by my tutor. I’ve just commenced the Professional Freelance Journalism course with Thomson Education Direct, and to date it looks very interesting. Time for a glass or two of bubbly. Cheers.

Getting to be somewhat of a trademark of mine along with toilets and telephone etc, here is another shot of a power socket on a flaking paint wall.

Ghosts of those long gone

Student work; still getting the hang of pastels at this stage, but the mood is what I wanted. I’ve been thinking about doing another version of this now, 20 years later… (geez I’m suddenly getting old)

The front door to the abandoned boarding school stands ajar, a pile of sticks possibly for some long extinguished fire rests against the side of the door. As you can see from the plaque this building was made in 1896, sadly it lasted just short of 100 years closing in 1993.
