  • This is the view walking up the main driveway of this abandoned boarding school, i wonder how many kids were unhappy to be taken along this route and left by their parents at the start of the term.

  • Most of the windows in this place were either cracked, broken or completely removed. It made for some eerie nosies when walking about in the place with the wind rattling through and the curtains flapping about etc.

  • Probably one of the oldest artworks I’ve got up here… done in my second year of uni. Just three of my mates. But this is uniquely one of only 3 actual oil paintings I’ve ever done, on masonite. I always found oils difficult and still do, hence the fussy detail and lack of confidence with the medium. But I intend to have another go this year, maybe on a larger canvas.

  • Striking artistic representation of how the flow of technology advances is viewed by the artistic mind. The view is horrible and huge.

  • Just a quick in between thing again. This basically shows what I’m going through right now. Except I’m not a guy. And I actually study on my bed, on the couch, in the living room… =P But yes, this is the student life, at least during exam period. Pencil drawing. Background and textures added in Photoshop, as well as the slight shading. Colours appear a bit different here (less red) than they did in Photoshop, but oh well. =)

  • Pencil drawing / Same design available on colored tees /

  • I was watching the movie “The Ultimate Gift” listening to the character played by James Garner talking to his grandson when he said… ‘Learning is a gift… even if pain is your teacher”. As soon as the words had finished coming out of his mouth I honestly said out loud – YES!! Immediately I was blown away by the quote and I wrote it down and thought about its meaning for weeks. I’ve never felt so affected by a sentence before. Upon reflecting this quote I found quite confronting to realise that I spent my twenties doing everything to avoid and “run away” from my emotional pain.. Now in my 30s I’ve realised that pain was essential for me to be a more caring, less-judgemental and forgiving person. Pain seems to show us the truth in others… the truth that all people, no matter what’s on the outside… have a heart capable of breaking on the inside. It gives me great comfort that I can now view the grief of my brothers death as somewhat of a gift to me – rather than nothing but a loss FEATURED IN Prize Challenges GROUP / FEATURED IN Creative Inspirations / FEATURED IN YOU’RE ACCEPTED GROUP / FEATURED IN FIRST THINGS GROUP / FEATURED IN TYPOGRAPHY GROUP / FEATURED IN THE ART OF PAIN GROUP t-shirt available .

  • Taken at Wat Rakhang in Bangkok, Thailand. This temple is a little more obscure in terms of tourist attractions but what attracted me to it was the fact that it apparently had a nice collection of bells. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the temple itself was surrounded by these small chimes that rang with the waving of the wind. Even more pleasantly surprised was I when I realized that there was a class being held in the temple. What caught my eye was the traditional tattoo on the younger monks shoulder. • Thought I’d try this quote as a polaroid so it would look ok on a tee. .

  • Canon 5D Mk II, 24-105mm at 24mm, f/4.5, 1/13”, ISO 200

  • Butler Ballet dancers examining their “pale” legs. Indianapolis, IN / 12.2008 lauren ashley photography / www.laisallyouneed.com

  • I went to a Travis show out in Berkeley. The last song they played was “Why does it always rain on me”. So this visual popped up in my head. Enjoy!

  • For the students who are keen to shoot water drops, you know who you are Tanya :) I played with water yesterday, and think I have a plan….(anyone who knows me will be rolling on the floor laughing by now) Here’s the way I did it. Fill the sink with water, put the red background up, slung across the washing liquid and other cleaning products, set up the flash on the sink, facing the red material, set flash on 1/16 power, plug in the pocket wizards to camera and flash, put camera on manual, f/8, 1/200, start the tap dripping, manual focus on the drop spot, and begin firing….cross process in photoshop.

  • When I take a class out for a night shoot, I’m afraid I lose interest when it comes to straight photography. Maybe I’m not cut out for this lark….I dunno…. Calendar Canon 5D, 30” exposure
