Self portrait. The Stuck series was inspired by the Storyville prostitutes in the photographs of E.J. Bellocq. Here Velia attempts to blur her physical identity while interacting with the medium of clear tape on a mirror. You can see a hint of the tripod in the lower left corner of this piece.Stuck is the first series in which the artist uses a mirror with an additional medium to create the entire surface composition. This mixed media approach will be explored further through out her career.

The world is about to end because of global warming. Temperatures are soaring, ice is melting, glaciers are retreating, seas are rising, and we’re all going to fry. We’re all up to here with worry about it. The Royal Society says there’s no longer any room for scientific doubt about it. Britain’s Chief Scientist says it’s a bigger threat than global terrorism. / Every global warming sceptic is denounced as clinically insane. Every developed nation wags its finger at every other (well, ok then, at America) and tells it to Emit Less. Every politician and B-list celebrity now anxiously measures his or her carbon footprint. Every British schoolchild is now drilled to believe that man-made global warming is a Fact along with poverty and the existence of Belgium. It’s a wonder any of us has any incentive to get up in the morning. :) Online Galleries: / Surrealism art prints / 2d3d graphic design software / 3ds models max software

I had a hard time deciding whether I should put this one up or not but I suppose I shouldn’t be “stuck” on white backgrounds… ;) I have done some work in photoshop with this one clone-stamping orange around to change the composition a bit. I think I’m doing a series of sorts of items from my desk… at least that is what it is beginning to look like :) /

Title borrowed from Frank Zappa again and colour inspired by “Hot Rats” the album and also gladders I mentioned in Run Home Slow that I sank in mud and almost lost a shoe….well this is why. / I wanted to get a bit closer to the edge of the swamp and upon inspection the mud looked solid enough….. unfortunately when my delicate frame (LOL) stood on the supposed ‘solid’ patch, I began to sink as if in quicksand. After saving the camera (which was on a tripod,..thankgod) I desperately tried to pull myself free but I was firmly stuck!! I was almost willing to sacrifice a shoe to get my foot out but decided to give it one last go so, whilst sitting in the filthy, smelly mud I dug into it with my hand. Yuck!! Had anyone been watching they would have laughed their heads off. I was certainly laughing the entire time. So once I was free I took this shot (with my one clean hand) as I wasn’t going to go through all that without getting something for it. Hope you like it.

Can’t win. Don’t try. Here’s a de-motivational poster of mine. I took the picture as well as doing the frame (oo-la-la, white text on a black background, fancy me) so I recommend if you buy this print you buy it unframed since I don’t know how to ask the good people here to include text in a frame.
