I’d only noticed the cave when the bright red caught the corner of my eye as I was walking along the beach

  • Location: / Reculver, Kent, England Map: / Google Maps Date and Time: / 22 March 2008, 6.20 a.m. Camera details: / ISO 200 : f/22 : 3 seconds : 18mm : Nikon D40 : Nikon 18-55mm lens Shot narrative: / I went to Reculver on a stormy and windy morning with a completly different shot in mind, when I happened to stumble upon this water outlet along the beach. It managed to shield me from the gale force winds for a while if nothing else.

  • Location : / Folkestone, Kent, England Map: / Google Maps Date and Time: / 10 September 2007, 4.59 a.m. Camera Details: / ISO 200 : f/4 : 30 seconds : 20mm : Nikon D40 : Nikon 18-55mm lens Shot narrative: / Taken a good hour or so before sun rise, the original colour version was awash with that street glow orange which led to the conversion of this image as a black and white. The glow of lights to the far right hand side are that of Folkestone Harbour. Photographs from Folkestone, Kent

Fortunately there was a bus stop in the layby (see map above) that I could pull in to and stood up on the door frame of the car to see over the fence. Fortunately the clouds were just right as I was driving past.

This was a particularly cold morning with frost and ice still on the pathways and roads.

  • March 2008 I’d pulled in to capture a picture of the Cooling Towers at the Ratcliffe-On-Soar Power Station in Nottinghamshire but on the walk from the car I just couldn’t believe the sky I saw on the way past this field. The clouds really were that shape. Taken on Nikon D40, 18-55mm Nikon lens at 18mm.

A cool white balance temperature has enhanced the blues against the backdrop of a firey red sunrising sky. Photographs from St. Margarets Bay, Kent

  • St. Margaret’s Bay, Kent, England August 2008: Sunrise up over the English Channel on one of the most spectacular mornings i’ve witnessed at this location. The sky turned pink for just a minute before the sun rose up over the horizon.

  • Location: / Kingsdown, Deal, Kent, England Map: / Google Maps Date and Time: / 10 May 2008, 5.53 a.m. Camera details: / ISO 200 : f/22 : 13 seconds : 18mm : Nikon D40 : Nikon 18-55mm lens Shot narrative: / The ferry sitting waiting for entrance into Dover Harbour meant that a long exposure would contain a sharp and non moving ferry.

  • Location: / St. Margaret’s Bay, Kent, England Map: / Multimap Date and Time: / 16 August 2008, 6.14 a.m. Camera details: / ISO 200 : f/22 : 1/4 second : 18mm : Nikon D40 : Nikon 18-55mm lens Shot narrative: / Known as White Cliffs Country and one of England’s most famous natural landmarks according to the Natural Trust, the cliffs extend a few miles to the north to St Margaret’s Bay. Captured in the early morning light the glow of these magnificent cliffs is amazing. Unfortunately due to erosion, parts of these cliffs are falling into the sea and the section of beach I usually visit at St Margaret’s Bay differs each time I go with new rocks that were once cliff now at the water’s edge.

  • Location: / Canterbury, Kent, England Map: / Google Maps Date and Time: / 2 January 2009, 7.23 p.m. to 7.43 p.m. Camera details: / ISO 400 : f/5.6 : 36×30 seconds : 18mm : Nikon D40 : Nikon 18-55mm lens Shot narrative: / This is a combination of 36×30 second images (before the onset of clouds obscured all the stars) all shot in RAW and then individually tweaked before assembling together in Paint Shop Pro through layers.

  • “I want to live where soul meets body / And let the sun wrap its arms around me / And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing / And feel, feel what its like to be new” Soul Meets Body by Death Cab For Cutie Or the one sole reason why i’ve not been around much for the last 3 weeks as I have a new girl in my life – Hannah Grace Chapman (8 Jan 2009). Self portrait of me and my girl.

  • Stuart’s amazing shot Spooky caught my eye when he uploaded it, and I lifted it into my favs immediately. I know how much time and effort he’s put into refining these amazing time lapse images, and his perserverence is admirable, particularly when you consider the temps and discomfort he’s had to endure!! I emailed him and asked if I could use the image for a collab, and even managed to get it done pretty quickly, but then he took some time off to be with his family for the birth of his beautiful daughter Hannah, so I waited for him to come back before posting this. Thanks Stu, it’s an awesome image, hope I’ve done it justice. Marcus Ranum has supplied the model / and UmbraDeNoapte_Stock provided the castle. /

  • Tuppers just never ceases to inspire me to try something different. Cheers Paul

  • Poppies in the Kent Countryside. The title is for Graeme who insists I ought to try and keep away from the water! Photographs from Chartham, Kent

  • Location / St Margaret’s Bay, Kent, England August 2009: Taken 45 minutes before sunrise and facing away from where the sun rises from. The glow of red above the famous white cliffs are those from the docks at Dover which handles the cross channel ferries to France (one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world)
