So… does anybody think still think global warming isn’t a problem? I took this picture during mid-July of 2006. Coincidence? I think not!! *taken at the Arboretum in Arcadia, CA

Sometimes there is humanity within abstraction. I’m not sure the proper way to put it, but this, of all my art, bears my humanity. It may seem odd that I consider this myself as other… but the it no rule dictating if other must be human, fantastical, or pure energy upon paper. I consider this to be myself, simply ripped apart and dug into deeply. / This may look like nothing, but it actually was one of the most intensive experiences I’ve had in the visual arts. I find a bit of direction and even peace in it, though its colors are those of anger and melancholy. I chose to post it because I believe in the soul of a work of art, and know for sure that souls, those not inborn, must develop by rubbing off of another through regular interaction – something can be the most magnificent picture/painting in the world, but it is as empty as laser-pigment on bleached printer paper if it came in a flash… likewise the worst image imaginable may have a deepness to shame the ocean if it was danced with for weeks, months, years… there is notable merit in beauty alone, sure, but a soul is often required to speak freely to others.
Kanji – Tea, Art, Expert (Tea Geisha) / Evolution is such a great thing, especially in an artist’s development. / This being my last tee for 2007, I need to thank The Bub so much for helping me evolve as an artist this year. I still watch her video as it reminds me who I really am.. Here is a bit about this amazing Doctor/woman and her website below. / / Jill Bolte Taylor: Neuroanatomist Brain researcher Jill Bolte Taylor studied her own stroke as it happened—and has become a powerful voice for brain recovery. / Why you should listen to her: One morning, a blood vessel in Jill Bolte Taylor’s brain exploded. As a brain scientist, she realized she had a ringside seat to her own stroke. She watched as her brain functions shut down one by one: motion, speech, memory, self-awareness … Amazed to find herself alive, Taylor spent eight years recovering her ability to think, walk and talk. She has become a spokesperson for stroke recovery and for the possibility of coming back from brain injury stronger than before. In her case, although the stroke damaged the left side of her brain, her recovery unleashed a torrent of creative energy from her right. From her home base in Indiana, she now travels the country on behalf of the Harvard Brain Bank as the “Singin’ Scientist.” “How many brain scientists have been able to study the brain from the inside out? I’ve gotten as much out of this experience of losing my left mind as I have in my entire academic career.” Jill Bolte Taylor

FROM WIKIPEDIA / The Andromeda Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 2.5 million light-years away4 in the constellation Andromeda. It is the nearest spiral galaxy to our own, the Milky Way. As it is visible as a faint smudge on a moonless night, it is one of the farthest objects visible to the naked eye, and can be seen even from urban areas with binoculars. It is named after the princess Andromeda in Greek mythology.

Quite apart from the rare pink-orange hue of the Yarra River’s surface, what I really wanted to depict here was the wonder of how geometrical aspects crop up in scenes from everyday life. Apart from the symmetry of the slender, dark oars and the diagonal motion of the vessel away from me, I was struck by the repetitive pattern of the bow wave that is echoed all the way across the hull. And an interesting counterpoint to the many straight lines and acute angles is provided by the pattern of concentric circles on the left of the frame. This shot was taken just before dawn in early July this year, when the river took on an interesting coppery hue as it reflected the winter clouds high above. I was walking across Princes Bridge when I looked down and saw this crew rowing towards the Melbourne Cricket Ground. I shot two frames, unsure of whether my reactions would actually be quick enough to capture the concentric pools of water left by the passage of each oar. The thing I really like about this low-light, quick-motion shot is that you can still see the swirls and eddies left by the previous dip of the oars into the water. Fast swirls. And also, er, fast eddies. I do not crop, enhance or pst-edit my work in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F5.6, 1/60 sec, ISO 800, focal length 125mm.
