Amur Tiger – 9mths old- Super big now
The jaguar is a near threatened species and its numbers are declining. Threats include habitat loss and fragmentation. While international trade in jaguars or their parts is prohibited, the cat is still regularly killed by humans, particularly in conflicts with ranchers and farmers in South America. Although reduced, its range remains large; given its historical distribution, the jaguar has featured prominently in the mythology of numerous indigenous American cultures, including that of the Maya and Aztec. / (from Wikipedia) /
Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / Ride Like the Wind is a card from the Beach Series and Inspired Series by Karin Taylor….. / in the dark of night she escapes suburbia to find the giant swell of the rolling ocean beckoning her from the shoreline…..she notices a makeshift board on the edge, where the waves ebb and flow in a cheeky hello…....bracing herself, she skims the board through the shallows and onto the wave, which picks her up as though it were cradling her in it’s arms, throws her forward and there she stands in all her glory, the moonlight guiding her way to another land, where in the soft glow of the morning light ~ life will be gentler, people kinder and her heart can mend….... White tulips on an American flag.
Ref / with special permission from model and photographer pluschkind I bumped into this fantastic image while browsing the photography on deviant art and the photographer/model was happy to let me try my hand at drawing it. / As you can see though, I ended up painting it. oils on watercolour paper. I’ve never tried that before but i had no black watercolour paint so I thought, why not!? So all I used was black oils and turpentine to get the greys, like with watercolours. / The way the white cuts up the image reminded me of an image we’d looked at in my visual culture class, the artist had digitally erased lines through the person to create white tribal markings. this erasure gave me the idea for the title of this piece. This Portrait is available in my 2009 calendar!
Self portrait…I had the most amazing light coming into my bedroom blinds several mornings in a row so i did what we do to secure the light.
