Steve’s_Biography The tiger (Panthera tigris) is a member of the Felidae family; the heaviest of the four “big cats” in the genus Panthera. Native to much of eastern and southern Asia, the tiger is an apex predator and an obligate carnivore. Reaching up to 4 metres (13 ft) in total length and weighing up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds), the larger tiger subspecies are comparable in size to the biggest extinct felids. Aside from their great bulk and power, their most recognizable feature is the pattern of dark vertical stripes that overlays near-white to reddish-orange fur, with lighter underparts. The largest subspecies of tiger is the Siberian tiger.

  • Tigers Forever is the first initiative of its kind committed to saving the world’s wild tigers. With less than 5,000 tigers left in the world, and this number is rapidly decreasing, it is time for global action. Tigers Forever is implementing a new conservation plan that is built on a range-wide strategy. The tiger (Panthera tigris) is a member of the Felidae family; the largest of the four “big cats” in the genus Panthera. Native to much of eastern and southern Asia, the tiger is an apex predator and an obligate carnivore. Reaching up to 4 metres (13 ft) in total length and weighing up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds). Poaching for fur and destruction of habitat have greatly reduced tiger populations in the wild. A century ago, it is estimated there were over 100,000 tigers in the world but the population has dwindled to between 7,000 and 5,000 tigers. Some estimates suggest the population is even lower, with some at less than 2,500 mature breeding individuals, with no subpopulation containing more than 250 mature breeding individuals. The threat of extinction is mitigated somewhat by the presence of some 20,000 tigers currently in captivity, although parts of the captive population, such as the 4-5,000 animals in China’s commercial tiger farms, are of low genetic diversity.

  • Another collaborative effort, this time at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair at the end of the Botanical Gardens Sydney: Model: Brigitte / Art direction: Rose / Photography and post-processing: Geoff Well you’ve got to hand it to Brigitte – she’s pretty versatile – she also featured in the Silent is the Night Series I’ve posted two versions of this shot because I’d love to hear which you prefer. The interesting thing about the “anime” version is that I used the same Photoshop filter on both Brigitte and the Harbour background and Brigitte hardly changed at all and the background changed completely. Shot with the Canon 1Ds MkIII / Tv: 1/80sec / Av: f/6.3 / ISO: 100 / FL: 96mm
