Lighting strike
Two large lightning bolts in Arizona. / Canon 20D + 28-135mm IS USM.
This is the Temple Church in Bristol. / Temple Church is so-called because the original church was built by the Knights Templar. The Templars, a society of soldier-monks, was formed during the time of the Crusades to defend the Holy Sepulchre and guard pilgrims travelling to Jerusalem. They had been granted land across the Avon from Bristol by Robert, Earl of Gloucester in the mid-12th Century. HDR and colour work in PS. Comments welcome! Thanks, / Al
first light of morning / finds this bloom / asking to be taken, now. ~~ Lenny La Rue This shot was taken in Sacramento’s Capitol Park just as the first light reached the bloom. I shot the first full blossom to get full sunlight. The original was (obviously) in colour but the early reviews I received all said it looked much better in black and white. There was massive editing to the background which was “burned” because light hit everything behind and most around the subject. However, there was nothing done to the actual flower; it was indeed perfect. “magnolia” is also a testament to the power of your everyday “pocket rocket” camera: it was shot with a Olympus IR-500 that literally folded into a small, metal-cased wonder that would fit in a shirt pocket! Just 4 megapixels. I have yet to capture an image this well with either of my DSLR cameras. For less than $100, today’s compact cameras are extraordinary at 8 megapixels. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. :-)
Gainesville, Florida USA 2008
Its Sunday around lunchtime. A huge thunderstorm arrives over our city. It only lasted a short time but 1 of my 160 shots captured this strike. / I hope you like it.
18mm.. open up that lens if there is good opportunity for lights that go high up. Lightning can jump from cloud to cloud which can illuminate the cloud borders.

Lightning from an approaching storm west of Geranium in the Southern Mallee South Australia
This is my first time out shooting lightning with camera & tripod. From the front lawn. Last night’s passing storm. One of the quotes that always stuck in my head from Pulp Fiction “and I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger” – Ezekiel. This photo makes me think of that. Mother nature is so powerful.

Pythons, are a family of non-venomous snakes found in Africa, Asia and Australia. Among its members are some of the largest snakes in the world. Eight genera and 26 species are currently recognized. Found in subsaharan Africa, peninsular India, Myanmar, southern China, Southeast Asia and from the Philippines southeast through Indonesia to New Guinea and Australia. In the United States an introduced population of Burmese pythons, Python molurus bivittatus, has existed as an invasive species in the Everglades National Park since the late 1990s. Many species have been hunted aggressively, which has decimated some, such as the Indian python, Most members of this family are ambush predators, in that they typically remain motionless in a camouflaged position and then strike suddenly at passing prey. They will generally not attack humans unless startled or provoked, although females protecting their eggs can be aggressive. Large adult specimens can kill people. Unsuspecting children can and have been preyed upon and swallowed whole after being suffocated. Reports of attacks on human beings were once more common in South and Southeast Asia, but are now quite rare. As is capture …. “Python …...” was featured in Extreme Close-Ups

Watching an amazing lightning show tonight as it passed through between Beachport and Millicent in the Limestone Coast. If you view this large you will see small red dots at the bottom of the strike – they are the tower lights on the Wind-farm nearby at Canunda. Canon 400D 17-85 lens. Two second exposure.
