This duck really put on a performance as I was photographing it. He reminded me of a music conductor in charge of a beautiful symphony orchestra, hence the name, Maestro.
In the dead of winter, it seems that something inside us is yearning, s t r e t c h i n g, toward Spring and rebirth. This daylily with its stamens stretching outward and rich with the possibilities of the future, is a symbol of that inner desire for new life we feel universally.

i discovered something i thought i’d forgotten.. rationality she’s a serial monogamist / she loves, ‘she leaves, and then she loves again, / again and again / she last left in January 2007 / she fell into my arms in May / with no time to grieve, or recapture herself from the depths of / betrayal and deception. we weren’t ready, / we clung on for dear life and maybe, just maybe, / this is our undoing.. / maybe we’ve served our purpose, and it’s time to move on.. / maybe not.. she has two weeks now / maybe she will never know, / maybe she will never need to. / it is time to turn, escape / and try not to look back / although for that i will not offer any guarantees But, As A Serial Monogamist / She Won’t Leave Me For Him / She Won’t Have An Affair / She Can’t / It Is Not In Her Makeup / With Him, It Will Never Be Monogamy / He Won’t Leave His Wife, / He Can’t / It Is Not In His Culture. serial monogamy is not a dirty phrase.. / i’m not sure why it’s been portrayed to me as such.. / very rarely has a phrase caused me so much comfort and release..
Cole relaxing, but ever alert.

These rather tall fellows are a feature of the zoo. They wander about their enclosure with zebra and an ostrich as companions. They are so interesting to watch as thier long greyish tongue pokes in and out as it feeds. Olympus E520 / 70-300mm zoom The Royal Melbourne Zoo is situated in Royal Park (Melbourne) and is easily accessed by train, car or bus. There is ample parking (metered), and all the amenities can be found inside the zoo, including: Toilets, cafe, zoo shop, playground, picnic shelters, and of course some of the worlds most spectacular exhibits showcasing many animals that are endangered. The Melbourne Zoo is about to welcome TWO new babies to their family when two of the Asian Elephants give birth early in 2009. There is a fantastic rain forest walk where one can encounter gorillas, tigers, elephants, oranutangs, and many other amazing animals.
