  • This was a spontaneous shot taken at a local Adelaide cafe on Rundle Street East in Kent Town one day when I was out with Dan. It was included in the series ‘When He’s Away’ and was a part of the ‘Living Queer in Adelaide’ group exhibition for the 2006 Feast Arts Festival there (Exibited at the Town Hall) I really like this one – human body against unyielding cement wall and rigid geometric lines. The theme that I was working on with the shots in this series was an analysis and exploration of sexuality – but more specifically gay male sexuality and the universal themes relating to the divide between public and private, acceptibility and unacceptibility, connection and disconnection, and of course human vulnerability / sensitivity and the structures and systems which confine or limit this. • This is a compilation I have done with Rebecca Zachariah after our trip to Rwanda. In a nation of shattered souls post genocide, hope remains in the form of new life. These people have witnessed death on massive scale. You can see how precious they consider life from this shot. ALL PROCEEDS TO HEAL AFRICA HEAL Africa calendar available now!!! • STALKING TIGER Slowly through the grass / The tiger stalked his prey / His movement long and languid / In the middle of the day / The sun was high and bright / As a vivid burning orb / His body moving slowly / Less heat there to absorb / Gazelles were moving fitfully / Around the waterhole / Nervous eyes were flitting wildly / As the world they did behold / A movement in the distance / And the animals did jump / The nerve ends all a jangling / Each one with quivering rump / Then like avenging angels / The tiger now does pounce / Gazelles are scattering wildly / With a death like spinning dance / And one of them is slower / No longer held at bay / The tiger now triumphant / As it finishes its prey Phil Sanders (aka Brummieboy) / 5/4/07 Thanks for the wonderful poem Phil!

  • Firewood for tonight by flyingdocphotos. / Village woman from Bromo, East Java Indonesia. This image was taken in a small village on the outskirts of the Bromo caldera volcanic region of eastern Java, Indonesia. I was playing around with my 100mm macro lens, capturing some spider pictures then this lady appeared down the trail, emerging from the fog. I stood at the side of the road, smilied and raised my camera as she drew close. As she saw me, she smiled, nodded back, posed and I took a snap. Then (I think she thought I was going to take only one photo) she started walking along again, focusing on the uphill path in front of her – and that’s when I clicked my shutter again, capturing this image.

  • You can always tell a man by his hands…they can be rough, tough and dirty…but if they are gentle enough to grace a rose, than you know you found a winner! Pentax K10D A beautiful poem written by Dalton Sayre / Clasped in hands so strong / Petals bright and sweet / In contrast to the mines / So dark and full of heat This blessing Gaia gives / To those who take time out / To stop and smell the roses / And love instead of shout So hear the plea I offer up / To cloud and sky above / As I kneel on Mother Earth / As gentle as a dove I thank you for your bounty / And all that you provide / For roses blooming up above / And the ore you keep inside I know how much you care for us / Although you bear our scars / For unto us doth spill the light / Of sun and moon and stars

  • this is a commission I received from someone who wanted a Stonehenge picture without anyone in it… / here’s the result. Hope it’s alright… / So everyone is aware – this is a photomanipulation – not an actual photo that I took…. / I manipulated sky, grass, clouds, colors…. :) to give it a fantasy feel… Peace, Claudia

  • My Website Thomas wrote a lovely poem for this image I created. Please go check out his work. / Thank you so much Tom !! :) Tracks of Life At times the tracks of our lives lead us on a path through the darkest reaches of our minds. / The mist covers the memories of moments we need to pass, let go of, move on from. / Our fears scream from the darkness, clawing at our souls, grabbing at our hearts. / If we pause we are lost. / The journey takes us through the darkness into a light filled with hope. / Rays of security fill us with warmth and / the strength to drive forward into a world bright with love Thomas Simunsen

  • Yes, I did actually manage to read all 4 massive books in the ‘Twilight’ series while my computer was ‘sick’. So – for a bit of ‘light relief’ – my take on the traditional ‘vampire’. I know this one doesn’t actually ‘match’ any of the wonderful vampire characters in ‘Twilight’ (by Stephanie Meyer) – the only vampire there with flaming red hair definitely comes across as a ‘bad guy’ – not one willing or able to join the good, ‘vegetarian vampire coven’ that the story is based around. / But – I just couldn’t see myself creating an image of something with fangs and a lot of fake blood – so bright red hair has to substitute. A ‘vampire’ maybe not willing or able to clearly show him or herself as she is to the outside non-supernatural world? A composite image created from many of my own photographs. • I wanted to try and communicate through art what it is like to live with a degenerating spine. I am not doing this for sympathy, but for the people who live as I do and the people that it affects in their world. It is not a pain that can be seen just by looking, as a broken bone is. Some of you know that I suffer from serious back issues. I have 7-8 herniated and/or ruptured discs in my back. To try and SHOW someone what this pain is like is very difficult. Mine has been an approximate 25 year progression. I have had 1 back surgery to relieve pressure off the sciatic nerve from the L5/S1 level. It had become so painful I could not walk without a cane at times. Sometimes the pain would come out of nowhere when I took a step and it was a lightning bolt shooting through me so hard I would fall. I have been in so much pain that I wished for death and if I had been able to walk and find the means I might have taken the out. Thankfully I could not walk = ) / My family has been so amazing in their care and concern for me and my grand children keep me motivated and smiling. I thank them all for their understanding… even if they didn’t really, they tried to. I am blessed to be a huge part of my grand daughter’s lives and it is the most precious gift anyone could ask for. It is difficult at times when René needs to be walked because she is teething or not feeling good. I lose feeling in my thighs at times and the pain in my lower back has been so bad I just cried silently until she was asleep and I could finally set her down. It makes my heart sad when Kolleen wants me to jump on the trampoline or run and play as these are things I must not do. However there are so many more positives with them. I get to be there for them in so many ways and when it’s all too much Sam and/or the kids help out until I am feeling better! So I thank God for all the help I am given, as well as still being able to contribute and feel needed. It has been my lifeline in so many ways.
