  • London Tourists
    by david malcolmson

    US$5.32–US$57.76

This image was nominated for the Pay Forward group by SeanOlio (http://www.redbubble.com/people/seanolio). He wrote: / “I would like to nominate David Malcolmson’s photo London Tourists / This is an extraordinary image in its own right, and has a justified place in the history of that great art form – street photography. On the one hand, it seems hard to believe that the image is approximately 41 years old, but on the other hand it is hard to escape the conclusion that it is very much a product of its time. It seems to me that works like this just aren’t being casually made anymore, so we should celebrate fine examples like this one and use them as inspiration so that we can re-ignite the flame that once powered our candid street photographers.” ** Possibly the strangest photograph I have ever taken. It was late afteroon and I was approaching the entrance to Piccadilly Station when I saw these people gazing at the local sights. I was extremely lucky to have just one frame of film left. The light was getting dim so I shot at full aperture and prayed everything would turn out all right.. Thankfully it did! London, 1967.

  • Creative / I created this image to remind us of the consequences of our actions if we continue to take our precious environment for granted. The location chosen is Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, a city free from catastrophic disaster. That is until Mother Nature turns back on us. We can keep running from what we have done but this is infinite future chaos! Thanks to Rikki & Jess for being models. You can see the before and after shots here Technical / The background was shot in 3 sections and stitched together in Photoshop CS3. Various parts from extra shots were used i.e. The Seven sign and text from another shot I took. I also cloned out people and objects as well as added elements to create this scene. The background, clouds, Rikki and Jess were shot separately on an old but trusty Canon 10D in RAW mode. Other images were sourced online and manipulated beyond original recognition. Once I had all the elements I needed I composited it all together in Photoshop CS3. I had to create some elements such as texture, debris, snapped cables and smoke from scratch using the good old airbrush and pen tools with various brushes all made easier with a A4 Wacom tablet but found that the mouse was sometimes better for other tasks. A lot of masking, deep etching, cloning, dodging and burning went into making this image what it is. Once complete I colour graded it to give it a real sense of drama and darkness.

  • Streetfighter
    by Mark Hayward

    US$4.99–US$114.00

This guy was pretty cool, sitting there minding his own business, and I just had to get the shot. But as I lifted the camera and looked through the lens he just broke into this mean stare into the lens like he was gonna hurt me. I saw it and quickly pressed the shutter. Later I complimented him on his tattoos and showed him the shot and it was then that his frown turned into a broad grin…phew!

  • Living (in mono)
    by Chris White

    US$4.32–US$98.80

With 6277 views 71 favouritings and 3 sales, this is probably by far my most popular image: / I shot it on my first digital camera, a Canon Powershot S80 compact in the main street of Kempsey NSW on a particularly trying road trip for work. It was a lucky shot, I just thought the billboard was a fairly self-reflexive thing to find in a rundown country town, but when this dejected guy limped into the shot it made it into a poignant statement. Having moved on in the equipment and (hopefully) skills aspects of my photographic practice due mainly to the encouragement I received here in the early days, I often look back at this image and see things I could improve with it. One of the assignments for a course I am doing is to convert an RGB image to greyscale. I’ve applied noise reduction, and unsharp mask, then tonal and exposure adjustments in the green channel. After converting to greyscale, I’ve despeckled it a bit and clone stamped out any larger specks that stand out more in greyscale. I’ve also cropped it a bit tighter and increased the resolution by decreasing the image size rather than interpolating. Wow, that was boring. Anyway, please enjoy the new mono version of Living. “You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake…” / / / / / / / /

This was in protest of the death of a cyclist on Montreal street who was hit by a motorist. / It was incredible. Rue Ste. Catherine was shut down in the late afternoon on a Saturday. Closed the city for ten minutes. / It was beautiful. / I would say that it made a lot of Montreal motorists angry, but that would mean the protesters really had no effect. • Rainy street, B&W
    by maka1967

Judith suggested Rainy street could be in B&W. She has great B&W work and has been an inspiration to me. So I tried with PS to convert the photo into B&W. But I’m new to PS and don’t know if I did it right. Please let me know what you think about the tones, contrast, textures… will a more grainy feel help? Thank you.
