A couple of years back my husband and I took an unplanned vacation…no kids, no phones, no reservations of any type & no actual end destination. We rented a car, packed a tent, a cooler, some tunes and away we went (we did decide to go south). Out of New York and heading down I95…we stopped in different caves & caverns, saw many scenic sights and had such an unforgettable & memorable trip. One that would last a life time! This is a poem I wrote about that trip: / Somewhere along the ride :) / a ride with no destination, a ride with no plans / a ride with no hesitation, a ride with no bans / many miles we followed winding roads & paths / excitement you wallowed from a sunshower bath / underground adventures thru caverns & caves / journey to the center; excitement i could not stave / above ground again; a home for old floats / which housed some characters & a few live goats / then a scenic highway which music followed round / that led to a secret spot in a cozy campground / now a new quest…an exihilerating hike / no time to rest…the suns about to spike / so lush & green; a passage with quiet might / an enchanting mist; a steam ever so light / a stream you walk not missing a thing / a feeling of euphoria this trek does bring / then we stop to look upstream / upon your face the sun does beam / you bend so slightly to kiss my lips / then whisper so softly this was the trip of trips. / / / / / / / Copyright ©*2009 DonnaM

Cades Cove – originally named Kate’s Cove Smoky Mountains, Tennessee Breathtaking
After a late spring rain, the freshened arbor bursts with life-force. Burgeoning plant-forms grope their way into another season of being, under the whispering canopy. The rhythm of rushing water underscores the call of all things wild and free, into fresh growth, vigor, and sparkling green. Resilient, life unfolds. The forest shows us the conjoined poles of the Grand Paradox, the dynamic mix and sensuous interplay of masculine and feminine principles, the unknowable yin and yang. From the steady, sure, unfading boulders anchoring the multitude of energies, to the glimmering rivulets vibrating inside fecund shores; from the pristine, continuous blue of the sky-dome to the groping aggregates of rough moss and lichen fields; to the fleeting but certain presence of pungent breeze…. Something stirs in my soul, and it is larger than joy. Image and text c 2008
