  • A typically fast-flowing Lake District stream, this one on the walk to see the ospreys at Bassenthwaite Lake. / What I really liked about this (aside from the fallen trees placed there for us photographers by the Lake District National Park) was the vivid green and almost primeval scene. / And yes, we did get to see the ospreys when we got tot the viewpoint:) / Thanks for looking. / Richard Technical details: / Nikon D200 / Sigma 17-35mm @17mm / F16 1/2.5s / ISO 100 / Taken on a convenient rock using a ‘Pod’ beanbag as support. / Main post-capture work was a hefty amount of D-Lighting in Nikon Capture to bring out the shadows and a light ‘S’ curve. A little selective sharpening to finish off.

  • This stream is within the Cascade Range and Modoc Plateau natural region of Northern California. It originates from underground springs and flows to Lake Britton, getting larger along the way to Burney Falls. This volcanic region is surrounded by mountain peaks and is covered by black volcanic rock, or basalt. Created over a million years ago, the layered, porous basalt retains rainwater and snow melt, which forms a large underground reservoir. The water then emerges as springs at and above Burney Falls, where it flows at 100 million gallons every day.

  • The sprawling flow of the water grabbed my attention right away! Lake George Village, NY Adirondack Park. Nikon D50/18-70mm NIkon Lens /

  • It happened that a Dog had got a piece of meat and was carrying it home in his mouth to eat it in peace. Now on his way home he had to cross a plank lying across a running brook. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own shadow reflected in the water beneath. Thinking it was another dog with another piece of meat, he made up his mind to have that also. So he made a snap at the shadow in the water, but as he opened his mouth the piece of meat fell out, dropped into the water and was never seen more. Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow

  • River & Dam in Durham / / A person should go out on the water on a fine day to a small distance from a beautiful coast, if he would see Nature really smile. Never does she look so delightful, as when the sun is brightly reflected by the water, while the waves are gently rippling, and the prospect receives life and animation from the glancing transit of an occasional row-boat, and the quieter motion of a few small vessels. But the land must be well in sight; not only for its own sake, but because the immensity and awfulness of a mere sea-view would ill accord with the other parts of the glittering and joyous scene. / ~Augustus William Hare and Julius Charles Hare,

  • Some days the sun consoles my fears / And lifts the wetness of my tears / Some nights the stars and moon embrace / The sorrow written on my face

  • When things go wrong as they sometimes will, / When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, / When funds are low and the debts are high, / And you want to smile, but you have to sigh. / When care is pressing you down a bit. / Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit. / Life is queer with its twists and turns / As every one of us sometimes learns. / And many a failure turns about / When he might have won had he stuck it out: / Don’t give up though the pace seems slow - / You may succeed with another blow. / Success is failure turned inside out - / The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. / And you never can tell how close you are. / It may be near when it seems so far: / So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit / It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit. • I finally redid the HDR on this one. Hope everyone likes it. I totally dig it although the I kept the original darker one as my desktop picture (cause it looks great on my mac but apparently is too dark on a PC). Rock on all and let me know what you think. Seriously please critique this one for me. This photo has been driving me nuts since the original HDR was too dark. 5 exposure HDR processed in photomatix. Unsharp mask in GIMP. Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi / Shutter Speed: 160/100 second / F Number: F/14.0 / Focal Length: 18 mm / ISO Speed: 100 / Date Picture Taken: Apr 27, 2009, 3:02:11 AM Currently featured in Stream Crossings group and All Water in Motion group.
