Panic attacks are unexpected, isolated periods of intense anxiety, fear and distress that are associated with a range of somatic and cognitive symptoms. The onset of these episodes is usually sudden, and may have no apparent start. Although these episodes may appear accidental, they are considered to be a subset of an evolutionary comeback commonly referred to as fight or flight that happen out of context, flooding the body with hormones as particularly adrenalin, that aid in defending itself from harm. The panic attack is different from other forms of anxiety by its concentration and its unexpected, episodic nature. / Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is the term for an acute and continuing emotional reaction to an excessive psychological trauma. The latter may involve someone’s real death or a threat to the patient’s or someone else’s life, serious physical injury, or threat to physical and/or psychological uprightness. It is important to make a difference between PTSD and Traumatic stress, which is an alike condition, but of less intensity and length. Hysteria was also related to “traumatic reminiscences” a century ago. At that time, Sigmund Freud’s pupil, Kardiner, was the first to portray what later became known as symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Stress is often defined as the reaction to a situation that threatens the balance or homeostasis of a system.
WHat particularly drew me to this scene were the patterns of light and shadow on the rocks and leaves. Taken on an Autumn afternoon in Jacob’s Fork River, South Mountain State Park, NC. Figuring out a way to get from one slippery and mossy rock to another in order to take the photo was a real challenge too-especially carrying tripod and camera equipment. / Nikon D50, 42mm,F22 ,2 sec / viewed 937 times as of 11/06/09 / /
“Clouds on the Water, Fire Near the Sky” / Purchase a Mouse Pad of this image I happened onto this gorgeous sunrise over the White River at a time when the water was at its lowest. I was delighted to catch the calm surface for reflections, as the low rising sun was casting its first orange glow over the autumn colors.

NOTE: Rainbow Waterfalls was nominated to the Pay It Forward group by Kathy S Gillentine and here is what she had to say: ”I want to nominate bigd / He has a great eye for photography. He has allowed to ask me how to do things if he’s not sure ,then he helps me find the way. Big D has been a true inspiration to me ,not only by his work but by his kindness to help me when I need help. His images are beautiful and well thought out. Take the time to look through his extensive portfolio and be inspired by his work.” Kathy S Gillentine It’s a huge surprise and thanks Kathy. Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

There is nothing so special as a misty morning in Pisgah National Forest, Western North Carolina, my favorite place in the world. The world is silent except for the soft whispers of water and mist. Pure magic. I added the Orton effect and changed the hue to create a more dream-like effect. Hope you like it! Featured in A BEAUTIFUL BLUR – September 28, 2009! A ‘burn’ is the Scottish Highland name for a stream, creek or beck. On my walk through the forest, I spotted a broken branch of Rowan, with its lovely Autumnal reds, and placed it on the ledge next to the miniature waterfall. A still – life of Nature. / The water was coloured with the peat that it picks up as it flows through the hillside. / All that was missing were the fairies ! I deliberately blurred the water, using f22 on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted securely on my tripod, fitted with a polarising filter to reduce the light still further ( it was quite low light under the canopy of trees). The shutter speed was 15 seconds ! I used my Tamron 28-300mm lens set at 135mm, iso 100, cloudy wb, RAW file Processed in PS CS3. Most of my processing is done in Adobe Camera Raw. I applied selective curves/levels adjustments, selective colour, and sharpened with Intellisharpen.
