Sure footed like a mountain goat, humble as a monk… This K9 ventures out onto the rocks at the tip of Borneo to search, to look, to experience. Walking down the rocky cliff face, he did not stumble once. Walking right past me, he did not stop to beg for food. As skinny and scrawny as he is, all he wanted was to venture out and see what he can see.
A dog on an island that is stray. Though stray but not wild, he was a cute little animal which actually followed me around while I took photographs on the island. Sweet memories.
The strange thing about the ruined city of Pompeii is that there are stray dogs everywhere, walking the streets, sleeping in the unearthed houses…
I have been taking pictures of barns whenever I come across them. So far most of them are in the Bellflower Missouri area. I was photographing a place called “Twin Pines” and this friendly dog snuck up behind me and said “Hey what are you doin?”. I said “I’m taking a picture of this barn but if you like I can take your picture too.”. I e-mailed his picture to a friend of mine that lives out that way because she likes animals and I thought it was a good picture. She wrote back “Hey that’s Petey!”. It turns out that she had Petey at her house as a stray and found him a home with some people near Twin Pines. Small world.
This cute little puppy was rescued by a sweet older couple that I met today he is a very sweet little dog who was happy to get his picture taken! lol

The stray who no one wanted and chose us to live with.
A dog sleeping on the street in Apaneca, El Salvador. I took this from a moving car, so I think it came out pretty nicely.
Love love LOVE this dog. He’s a stray here in St. Maarten but he’s well fed and gets attention. I’ve gone to him for a couple days in a row now and I’ll try to make it a habit to go and feed him.
Springer Spaniel Rescue Dog
Stevey, a one year old Cocker Spaniel, was found roaming in the busy streets of a fairly large California town. We had just lost our Cocker Spaniel, Stedman, another rescued dog, two weeks before I saw Stevey on the Internet. Even though I wasn’t ready for a new dog, since I was still grief stricken, Stevey’s eyes grabbed a hold of me and just wouldn’t let me go…I couldn’t get my mind off of him. About a week later, we made a phone call to find out more about Stevey. He had only weighed 15 pounds when he was found, had a cherry eye and was obviously malnutritioned. Luckily he was rescued from an animal shelter by Sacramento Independent Rescuers and immediately taken to a vetrinarians for a weeks worth of treatment. Afterward, he was placed in a foster home, where his Foster Mom, Terri, had to spoon feed him back to health. Stevey adapted well to his new surroundings that included two other dogs who taught him proper behaviour, as well as two young boys who loved to play. I will be forever grateful for Carrie Moore, his rescuer, as well as Terri and Mike Taylor, who fostered him, until he was well enough to be released and adopted by us! That first day that we brought him home, I didn’t want to let him go. He has been by my side ever since and is an incredible dog that I wish I could clone! For more information, please read, “The Impeccable Teachings of Stevey Wonder Dawg,” in my writing section! Stevey still teaches me to this day!
Our 3 year old brindle Boxer/Pit mix, Miska, stretching her legs in preparation of a nap the sofa. (the following is from the page of my husband, Tim’s and is his story of Miska’s rescue): “Miska was a stray rescue dog, and seems to have been mistreated at some point. Her faith in human beings has been restored:) / Miska became our loyal friend when she showed up at my old workplace, she had managed to get in the building and was apparently inside overnight. I found her the next morning cowering behind one of the parts racks and she obviously didn’t have too much trust in people. It took a lot of coaxing, but I finally got her to come out. I took her up to the front of the store where I cleaned her up and found her some food which she quickly inhaled. I then called the local shelters to see if anyone was missing a dog fitting her description and had already decided that if she didn’t belong to anyone I would take her home. One gentleman came by to look and sadly said it wasn’t his dog. So, on my lunch hour I took her to the Vet and had her checked out then took her home. I already had a Shepard-Pit at home and I knew they would get along fine. The funny thing was that this was May and I had just had to put down my 14 year old Shepard-Husky Chaka in January. My Shepard-Pit and I both missed her terribly and although I wasn’t going to get another dog yet, I feel like Miska came along for him more than me. Sure enough Miska helped us both with our depression over Chaka and has become a wonderful family member who no longer fears people and loves everyone. She is especially very good with children and has the sweetest demeanor.”
I have temporarily called this little terrier type bitch Fea (Ugly in Spanish!) I found her abandoned today whilst riding by Torremendo lake, cowering in a bush. My friend had to lead my horse back and I carried Fea for half an hour back to the yard! I took her to the vets but she is not microchipped. She is covered in fleas and ticks! (How lovely is that!) She is about 12-18 months and I hope she is not pregnant! She has an overshot bottom jaw, but seems sweet natured. I have rung some of the animal chartities but they are full to bursting and can’t take her….. So against my better judgement of I really don’t need another animal as I can’t afford one, she maybe staying! One animal charity did say they maybe able to help with some of the intitial vacination costs and speying, so I will have to see. Anyway I bought her a little pink collar and some food, the vet cut some mud clumps off around her face, sprayed her with Frontline to get rid of the wildlife she is housing in her fur and she is currently sleeping on my terrace, exhausted! As is straight from the camera Nikon D40 18-55mm on close up setting.

Bernie is part Shih-tzu, I believe. Six or so years ago I would see him running the road shoulder down by the volunteer firehouse. He did that for weeks. It was cold. March. I’d go and look for him but he would never come, keeping his distance at 30 feet. If I talked to him from my truck, he’d stop for an instant, then turn and run away. He was always on the road, moving constantly. My friend Sandra runs a small dog rescue and has a big heart for strays, whom she grooms, brings to the vet for spaying, neutering and whatever the stray needs, and then adopts them out. There was no way to catch this little shaggy dog. Until late one afternoon, I baited a humane live trap with Limburger cheese. I set it up near where I thought he may be sleeping – an unoccupied trailer. It was so cold that night. Bitter. Windy. This part of the Florida panhandle can get very cold, but seldom for long. I was up early next morning and drove down to see if he caught himself in the trap. There he was. I picked the trap up with him in it to put in the back of my truck because I didn’t want him to jump out. When I picked up that trap he cried like a human baby and wrenched my heart. The vet said he’d make a nice little house dog. He has been all that and more. He still has the wanderlust, and believe it or not, all these years he’s been walked on a leash on the acre. He will shoot right through the fence and visit the Chihuahuas across the street if I don’t. And occasionally he’ll turn at the corner and head out for parts unknown. So I can’t take any chances with Bernie. He is great with the other dogs and he loves the cats. There was never any question that morning on where his home would be. The minute I picked him up in the trap and heard him cry, he had a home for life.
