Homeward bound from my time out bush, I saw this windmill standing alone and proud in a sea of gold.
Some colourful straws lit up from one side.

This male Eastern bluebird is helping the female build a nest with straw. The outcome is always a marvel, a perfectly formed little teacup-shaped nest that is usually topped off with a tiny feather before egg-laying begins, one a day for five days. Then comes incubation time, hatching, tending the nestlings, and finally giving the babies freedom when they fledge. Here in southern Louisiana, the scenario is repeated three times with as many as 15 new baby bluebirds coming into the world in a pair’s spring/summer mating season. I never tire of watching the drama. This beautiful little male is making his home in my mother’s yard where there are doves, finches, titmice, chickadees, cardinals, sparrows, red-wing blackbirds, and Lord knows what else! They love it there!

Back to the Leicester rural landscapes…..... / This was taken near the village of Ashby Magna. My timing could have been better – storm in the morning, sun at lunch, big fluffy clouds early afternoon, grey overcast later, then this. It is the opposite corner of the field in which I took Harvests Final Curtain a few days earlier.
This is a blue version of Hive, a recent photo I made which was part of an experimental series showing the television screen seen through various objects used in the living room. This one is a macro shot of a bundle of drinking straws, aimed at the TV. Obviously, the screen was showing something blue! The actual straws measure less than 5mm in diameter. I used a shorter focal length for this one, and we can see more of the straws in it. Kangaroo Island, South Australia Please view large My first cave shot !! The name of Kelly Hill Caves is a result of the story, how it was discovered. In 1880 a local stockman called Kelsy, riding on his horse Kelly, was chasing sheep that had strayed from his property. Unfortunately both of them fell into one of the big sink holes in the area. Kelsy managed to climb out, but he had to leave Kelly at the bottom of the sink hole. He returned soon with help to rescue the horse, but it was gone. Now oral tradition knows at least three versions of the end of this story, which makes the whole story a bit weird. The realistic version has it, the farmer may have gone back to the wrong hole. The optimistic version tells, the horse was later pulled to safety. And the mysterious end talks about Kelly the horse wandering off into the labyrinth of caves never to be seen again. Its skeleton may still be somewhere in the caves waiting to be discovered. The tourist history of the cave started with the local Harold Bell who explored the caves of the area and soon made the first guided tours with candlelight. He was appointed caretaker of the caves one year after the discovery and wrote a book about the cave the same year. At his time the chambers of the cave were numbered to allow visitors to find their way back. The numbers can still be seen at the ceiling. / The cave contains numerous speleothems, straws, stalactites and stalagmites, but most impressive are the various helictites WARNING / ©2008 Globalphotos All rights reserved. / All photographs, text and images by Globalphotos are the exclusive property of Globalphotos – protected under Australian and international copyright laws. / These images may not be reproduced, copied or manipulated without written permission. / No use for Public Domain. / Use of any image for another photographic concept or illustration is a violation of copyright.
Photo taken along the walkway at Moonstone Beach, Cambria, CA after the sun set. FEATURED IN Out of the Past…with thanks to the hosts!! FEATURED IN Everyday Women ~ sincere thanks to the hosts and members. Inspired by poetry: Donal Óg / by Isabella Augusta, Lady Gregory Translated from an anonymous eighth-century Irish poem It is late last night the dog was speaking of you; / the snipe was speaking of you in her deep marsh. / It is you are the lonely bird through the woods; / and that you may be without a mate until you find me. You promised me, and you said a lie to me, / that you would be before me where the sheep are flocked; / I gave a whistle and three hundred cries to you, / and I found nothing there but a bleating lamb. You promised me a thing that was hard for you, / a ship of gold under a silver mast; / twelve towns with a market in all of them, / and a fine white court by the side of the sea. You promised me a thing that is not possible, / that you would give me gloves of the skin of a fish; / that you would give me shoes of the skin of a bird; / and a suit of the dearest silk in Ireland. When I go by myself to the Well of Loneliness, / I sit down and I go through my trouble; / when I see the world and do not see my boy, / he that has an amber shade in his hair. It was on that Sunday I gave my love to you; / the Sunday that is last before Easter Sunday. / And myself on my knees reading the Passion; / and my two eyes giving love to you for ever. My mother said to me not to be talking with you today, / or tomorrow, or on the Sunday; / it was a bad time she took for telling me that; / it was shutting the door after the house was robbed. My heart is as black as the blackness of the sloe, / or as the black coal that is on the smith’s forge; / or as the sole of a shoe left in white halls; / it was you that put that darkness over my life. You have taken the east from me; you have taken the west from me; / you have taken what is before me and what is behind me; / you have taken the moon, you have taken the sun from me; / and my fear is great that you have taken God from me!
