  • BETTER VIEWED LARGER There are many townships in Australia that feature grand sandstone buildings, but in Hill End the buildings that remain are the remnants of the gold rush. Here the wooden fences are protected from repair and are part of the historic townships character. Thankfully protected . Here the sunrise catches the landscape with recently snow cover. Morning light hits trees in the National Park that surrounds the Historic Gold Mining Village of Hill End 3 1/2 hours drive from Sydney For those visiting Sydney , free some time to travel west of Sydney, you will experience the wonders of National Parks and World Heritage areas, old gold mining towns, old towns . And vineyards and wonderous scenery that is the true Australian landscape. Hill End NSW / In October 1872 the Star of Hope Gold Mining Co. uncovered what was, at the time, the world’s largest specimen of reef gold. ‘Holtermann’s Nugget’, as it was known, weighed 286 kg and measured 150 cm by 66 cm with an average thickness of 10 cm. That week alone, over 700 kilograms of gold were carted / away from Hill End by the gold escort. In all the amount of gold extracted at Hill End was greater than any goldfield in NSW other than Canbelego / VIEW THE HILL END HDR SERIES / Hill End – HDR Series Series

  • St Paul’s Episcopal Church is the oldest standing church in Sacramento. Constructed from huge bricks, I doubt anything could actually destroy it completely. It’s on the “2nd level” of Sacramento so it managed to escape the chronic flooding before the dams upstream were built, the terrible fires Sacramento endured in the mid 1800’s, and the great hurricane of Nov 26, 1864. (Talk about “climate change”)! This is the only stained glass window visible from the street. I don’t know how far back it dates but it’s beautiful nonetheless. I used a gentle flash to accent the colours without showing a glare.

  • St. John’s beach. Sorrento, Victoria

  • The great , 19th century West Window of Howden Minster in the East Riding of Yorkshire. (Best viewed large)

  • The great Nave of Howden Minster.

  • This is one of the best phtographs I have ever taken. I managed to take this image almost by chance. I had began the evening in the City and walked back from the Royal Exchange to St Pauls phtographing as I went. Once I had crossed the bridge I had intended stoping but decided to try one more shot from the river bank. I didn’t even give this image much of a chance, I took only two or three exposures and left it at that. When I reviewed the images the next day I realised this was the best of the whole evening which goes to show you can never be sure what you’re going to come back with when you go out taking photographs. We have the historic St Pauls Cathedral lined up with the Millennium Bridge as it crosses the river Thames in London England. This photo was taken just after sunset and we are treated an amazing wealth of colour. A stunning purple haze has been cast over the river and the cathdreal and the lights on the oopostie bank help to add character and detail to the great image. This photo would be perfect as and advertising image for commercial use or for personal us as a peace of wall art on either canvas or print or in any other medium.

  • This is one of the most interesting photographs I have ever taken. This image was taken on the centre of the Millennium Bridge over the river Thames leading up to St Pauls Cathedral at night. We have an amazing sky of red, orange, blue and purple of the City of London with the lights of the bridge really highlighting and drawing us into the historic centre of the city St Pauls which ahs also been illuminated. The truely interesting part of this photo is that there has been just enough light to show a ghostly shaddow of some of the passers by, none are possible to make out as only the outline of their bodys have been left but it gives us this amazing ghost effect reminding us of the thousands of people who pass over this bridge to the spiritual economic centre of the city.
