  • I took this shot of a very hazardous stretch of coastline on the very southern tip of Newfoundland just below a lighthouse. The winds were so high that day and the sea was whipped into such a boiling cauldron, my imagination was taken away. As I stood there and watched I could almost visualize a ghost ship emerging from the fog, the lighthouse that stood just above me was blowing its foghorn which added a sense of eerieness to the already somber scene. The winds lashed at me attempting to pluck me into the sea as a offering of peace for disturbing this epic battle between land and sea. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / /

  • Nick and I were hoping to catch up with Ken Wright for a shoot, but the weather wasn’t looking good. Ken decided to sleep in, but Nick and I drove down to the coast anyway. Sat in the car while it rained and waited, and waited….then walked down to the rocks after dawn, with umbrellas….and waited some more….eventually I weakened and asked for the keys so I could start shooting…. I’m glad I did…..got some rippers, in the end! Thank goodness for the heavy clouds, makes shooting after dawn so much easier! Canon 5D, 16-35mm at ?, f/11, 0.6”, ISO 50….lee nd grad filters, tripod, cable release, firm footing on high ground, surging tide. • During this past week, unimaginable waves came crashing into the north shores of the Hawaiian islands. The surf was windy, and messy, and disorganized—not ridable for the great watermen of Hawaii. I happened to be in Sunset Beach, Oahu during the storm, and the sun only peeked through the clouds a couple of times, briefly. I was waiting. Here is my image.

  • On the second day we were in Punta Cana, a storm rolled in and eventually turned the horizon black. This was taken about an hour before but the warning of wind, rain and darkness were already present in the early afternoon. • I was excited again this afternoon as the storms approached from the west. My brother and I raced to the lookout over Sunshine Beach in the Noosa National Park. As fast as they formed, they dissipated, leaving what was to be a beautiful sky in the sunset. I took the time to get to the hidden beach again as the now weak storm cell passed overhead. WOW I was in nature heaven, and I’m so happy I made the effort this afternoon to get to this spot. It’s so wild, untamed and serene. It wasn’t long before the usual eagles soared overhead. You don’t get many other birds here for some reason. Noosa Hidden Beach (not official name, un-named beach), Noosa National Park, Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia. Canon 5D Mk II, 2x stitched horizontal 16mm shots. 180 degrees field of view. Actual print size is over 3 metres high :) Best viewed Large of course.
