  • This beautiful stormy scene presented itself as I was overlooking the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. (If you look closely, you can see the Kissing Camels near the lower right-hand corner.) Hard to imagine it’s in the middle of a huge city. Update 20-June: Exciting news! This photo was chosen to be published in Gaia – The Living Planet, a book compiled of imagery and poetry from within the RB community. I’m so excited to receive my copy in the mail soon!

  • Last light with a storm approaching near Mannum South Australia. Image taken at the front of the Younghusband general store. HDR conversion of three images. Whilst the River is in trouble and drought effects us every day the communities along the river deserve our support and encouragement. There is still plenty to do and see along these stretches of the river. Tourism is often their lifeblood so with our sky’s and weather at the moment its a great time to visit.

  • Taken in a Winter’s storm, last light at Grange Jetty, South Australia. The wind was wild. I managed to steady the camera with a tripod behind one of the pylons and with the shutter speed slowed down, caught the magic of the waves moving in the foreground. The sun shining through the jetty as I pressed the shutter, gives this image a sureal feel. / /

  • As most of you know now, the East Coast of Australia was covered by a thick blanket of desert dust, was actually top soil, dried out by the severe drought conditions of the past several months in outback New South Wales. Thousands of tonnes of valuable top soil, out to sea. Didn’t hit the Sunshine Coast of Queensland till about 12 mid-day on the Wednesday, 23rd September, 2009. Was amazing, one minute it’s clear, then you can’t see anything about 500 metres away.. The sky was glowing orange, and the sun looked like the moon! In this shot, I managed to capture an eagle, soaring very low, as they hunted in the dusty conditions. The wind was also strong, and these beautiful birds could do their entire hunt without beating a wing! I hope you enjoy this shot, I know there is millions of shots out there of this event, and it probably will not happen again for many many years.. Canon 50D, 17mm. No filters or colour adjustment to this shot. this is as it looked, creepy! Available Large and best viewed Large!

  • The clouds rolled in and covered the setting sun, we waited, not so patiently, the clouds parted and there was light, beautiful golden light. Canon EOS 50D / TV 1/125 / AV 10 / ISO 100 / 17-85mm f4-5.6 @ 22mm

  • Sun Storm was shot at the same location and on the same shoot as Storm Passing Crescent. The light was sensational. The passing storm had been replaced by bright sunshine as the foreboding clouds hung offshore and contemplated where to dump next. On reflection, I could have gone up to f8 and sped up the shot, and perhaps should have. Lesson learnt by the end of the 6 day shoot. Canon EOS 5D Mark II / Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L USM Zoom Lens with Hoya HMC ND x400 Filter and Lee 0.9 Soft Grad ND Filter / Focal length: 24mm / ISO: 50 / Aperture: f13 / Speed: 30 seconds / Image: Single RAW file / Location: Crescent Head, NSW Featured by the Dimensions Group 14 October 2009 / Featured by the Beauty of Nature Group 15 October 2009 / Featured by the 5D Mark II Group 17 October 2009 Best viewed large
