  I’m getting really sick of people using the line “all those pet dog, pets and baby photos” as an indicator of the “rubbish” on RB. The content is irrelevant. There are some damn good “pet” portraits on RB (and yes, some really bad ones) I’m actually quite sick of a photo being considered good because of the content. Taking a photo of an exotic looking person doesn’t make you a genius photographer by default. It just means the person isn’t from your country and so is ‘interesting’. Good for you. It can be much harder to get a GREAT photo of a common subject. You have to work to make it stand out. Blurring the water in a photo doesn’t mean it’s a great photo, having a pretty sunset doesn’t make it a great photo, photographing someone who has a character lined face doesn’t make it a great photo, being naked in it doesn’t make a great photo, taking a photo of an exotic animal doesn’t make it a great photo….on and on I can go. So really, enough with the idea that pets = bad photos. Nothing is great or bad by default, it’s how you take it, YOU make it a great photo, if you can.

  I think I just might have come up with a brilliant idea. / Is anyone hooked on the TV show Heroes as much as I am? It is a show about people who have super powers / There is a character on the show named “Sylar” / He is supposedly the bad super hero. / He can absorb other peoples powers by eating their brains. I went on a shopping spree yesterday and bought lots of cards. My IDEA (ok kind of a stolen idea, buts it my idea with a twist) I eat all of your cards and absorb your artistic powers. / I will report back and let you know how this goes. / I am thinking I just might need some ketchup or something. / Also I didn’t really feel like finding everyone and trying to eat your brains. / Kind of made me gag a little bit. May I ask that you take a couple of moments to click on the link at the bottom and sign your name to the petition to stop this appalling thing happening. In 2007, the ‘artist’ Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved him to death. For several days, the ‘artist’ and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful ‘masterpiece’ based on the dog’s agony, until eventually he died. Does it look like art to you? But this is not all… the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the ‘installation’ was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008. PLEASE HELP STOP HIM.   A bubbler took several images from RB to used them in his personnal site in Australia ….grrrr…..He took “La Bella Luna” and I saw a couple that I recognised from RB,unfortunatly I can’t do anything because he erased them before you could see your shots.He likes etheral shots to talk about ghosts.I”ve decided to tell you anyway just in case he has the idea to do it again,we will be together to watch him….thank you everybody I’m glad BrainCandy sent me a b.mail,see POST ON THE SUBJECT / IT HAS TO STOP / Lenka wrote above that interresting link…....... good news is that they cannot get the original files you have uploaded, that is, big files good to be printed (even in a small size). Bad news: it is very easy to get any picture that appears on a screen (whether the right-click is allowed or not; makes no difference), and these are still good enough for usage in web sites… Somebody (sorry I don’t remember who was it; I just kept the bookmark to the page) proposed at one of RB forums using the TinEye website helping to find your image through the internet – you can then see where your images are on display. I haven’t tried it yet but maybe some of you would be interested, especially if some of your pictures seem to be quite popular by picture thieves /

  Hi All!! Just a quick note to say that I am making my way through my huge list of favourite’s at the moment, buying your pieces of works as either cards/tees/prints. I’ve noticed some have been deleted or removed at some point or another (which I have done myself in my own portfolio previously). Is a pity, cos I hadn’t yet gotten to purchase that fave piece of yours!! So I just thought I’d say a “HANG ON A MINUTE GUYS!” before deciding that a piece of work you’ve perhaps had little or no sales from, gets deleted from your portfolio. Some of us have just taken awhile to get our butts into gear. Especially me, with low income ATM. I figure if I can spend a few bucks a fortnight buying wonderful works, then before I know it I’ll have a wonderful little collection that I slowly but surely built, all the while supporting my fellow friends/artists around me. Perhaps this is something you yourself should think about to??? It’s all about supporting one another here at RB, don’t you think??? Anyway, love to see all the new works popping up, especially from OS. Have a great day Kids!!! Bel xxx

  Wow, controversy on the Bubble. The winner of the b&w section in the real photo comp has been found to be a fraud! / And now more questions are being asked. / Namely, why did some people win when their shots weren’t up for sale. / I have a suggestion and I’d love to know people’s thoughts. / I am not saying anyone has cheated (apart from the one RB has caught). However a cynic might say people don’t put things up for sale when they don’t have a high res enough pic. Why not ask all those who have won something to supply a high res version of their photo. If they took it, it shouldn’t be a problem. I am not trying to stir up trouble. But I do think RB should institute the rules as they were set out. Just to be fair to those concerned.

  It is with a smile that I share with you my good news friends. I was going to turn in early tonight, with a book of course, to get warm as it is bitterly cold today and especially tonight. I was closing my tabs one by one and came to the tab that showed my featured artworks. I decided to refresh the page before closing it, just because…. And of course, there it was! My “White Iceberg” rose pic was chosen for the feature page of the group: Stop and Smell the Roses Thank you jendes for this great honour! We (Springboks) play Nieu Zeeland (All Blacks) and they show it on the telly, early in the morning.

  From the moment the bull enters the ring, he is…

  From the moment the bull enters the ring, he is destined to die. His death will be slow and painful, and the last moments of his life will be full of terror and confusion as he hears the sounds of a jeering crowd. For the bull, bullfighting is no “competition”. It is simply slaughter for human entertainment. During a typical bullfight, the bull is first taunted by picadors – men who ride on the backs of blindfolded horses and thrust metal lances into the terrified bull’s back and neck, twisting and gouging the lances in order to impair the bull’s ability to move and ensure that he loses as much blood as possible. Next, banderilleros run around the bull and plunge banderillas – brightly coloured harpoon sticks – into his already bloodied and mutilated back. The harpoons tear the animal’s flesh, adding to his torment. When the bull is significantly weakened, the banderilleros run in circles around him until he is too dizzy and weak to continue. Then the matador appears and provokes the exhausted animal into charging once more. The matador often doesn’t succeed in killing the bull, which adds to the animal’s suffering. If the matador doesn’t kill the bull, an executioner is called in to sever the bull’s spinal cord with a dagger. In a final act of degradation, the bull is then dragged from the arena by his horns. The bull is often still conscious and twitching as his ears and tail are cut off and held up as “trophies” before the jeering crowd. The slaughter and torment of an animal should not be cause for celebration. This barbaric blood sport must end. There is perhaps no better example of the suffering endured by bulls used for this cruel sport than the annual “Running of the Bulls”, in which terrified bulls – who will eventually be killed – are forced to run through the streets of Pamplona while spectators hit and goad them. Bullfighting is a cruel, abhorrent blood sport that should have been relegated to the history books a long time ago.   Lots of serious fires just north and inland of where I live. South of San Francisco has had some bad burning for over two weeks along the coast, stopped then started up again. Mostly inland areas and mountainous, most of it caused by lightning strikes, one by a runaway campfire. The Indians Wildland fires and Ventana Wilderness fires have consumed hundreds of acres in beautiful Big Sur, threatening the famous Essalon Institute and exquisite coastline south of San Francisco and north of LA. 16 houses have been burned. Evacuations are underway. It’s rare in these parts, every ten years or so we get a doozy. This is feeding on underbrush that’s been accumulating over forty years and there’s a lot of it. The paintings I’d posted called Moonrise Cachagua and Cachagua Woods, well that Cachagua wilderness is being evacuated right now. Fires are along the ridges about eight miles from a number of my friend’s homes; about 20 miles from me. If everybody I invited over shows up it’s going to be a full house. The sky’s been smokey and red. There’s a relatively small population here, cowboys and waitresses, ranch hands, farmers, small business working class people and children and their animals and livestock. Homes built by hand in the nowhere out of nothing and sweat. There are a zillion postings on special sites for safe homes to run to, animal shelters and stables offered, food, trucks, and (it IS California) massage therapy for the fire fighters and emotionally strung out people and pets. The rest of us are managing but it’s worrisome. I’m already making lists in my head of what to grab. Who to call who has a truck….the big Blue Thunder’s gone and the jeep is tiny. My neighborhood has not been told to evacuate yet. I’m a great believer in group prayer and visualizing and I’d like to ask the RedBubblers for their artistic spiritual magic to stop all this stuff. It really is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. I drove past some of the scarred black wounds on hillsides last weekend, enough to make you cry. More lightning is expected tomorrow and Saturday, not good. For the first time in my life I saw honest-to-God ocean TO cloud lighting strikes. I didn’t know it could happen in that order, but it did. I’m visualizing the fire absorbing back into itself and growing cold. A silent calm replacing hot crackle. The earth taking it back and squelching it the way a cancer is reabsorbed. The way film run in reverse looks. All green, bright, flowered land spreading over the fire and smothering it. Lots of water. Rainstorms. Whatever you’d care to do along these lines, I’d be grateful. I don’t want my paintings or anyone else’s to go up in smoke, or pets frightened, or livestock singed, or a single shelter, home or tree or shrub to lose its livliness. Thanks everyone. I’ll report back on the progress you and I have made in stopping this thing. If anybody has good magic in their hearts, it’s the people on RedBubble. / Love to all, / Barbara

And I wanted to thank whoever it is that bought “Racing the Train.” Thanks so much!! It’s always humbling to see I’ve sold something. Hope you like it!! I’ll be back in the New Year- got some more stuff to add! I finally figured out how to do layering, so I’ll be having some fun with that when I’m done my book.
