The enigmatic standing stones at Castlerigg in the English Lake District National Park
A druid’s temple, built on his estate near Masham in North Yorkshire by William Danby in the early 1800s to provide work for unemployed local men. This stone circle and pillar is situated on a rise above the main temple.

Enigmatic stones at Castlerigg
One of my favourite pre-historic sites anywhere. The enigmatic Ring of Brodgar on Mainland, Orkney.
Taken during a spring equinox ceremony conducted this year at Castlerigg stone circle near Keswick, Cumbria. The crow alighted from the stones and took off into the skies.. I captured the series of flight and some stunning pictures. My best friend said this is a ‘money shot’ and that people would want it on their walls – so here I am and here it is. Thank you for looking at my work =o)
This is my personal favourite of the series
The final one of the crow’s flight from the stones at Castlerigg. Low contrast – great panaromic, also available in colour.

The peerless Ring of Brodgar on Mainland in Orkney
A small part of the Avebury stone circle, captured one cold and misty morning, on the day after the winter solstice.
Located in the Sperrin mountains Co Tyrone in Ireland and Discovered during peat cutting in the 1940s the site at Beaghmore consists of 7 stone circles. All of the rings are associated with cairns and a stone row runs towards these cairns. It is possible that Neolithic occupation and cultivation preceded the erection of burial cairns and ceremonial circles and alignments: some irregular lines and heaps of boulders resembling field-fences or field-clearance may predate the ritual structures. At some stage peat started to form over the site, and it may conceivably be that the cairns and rows were erected in a futile propitiatory attempt to restore fertility to the soil by attracting back the fading sun. © irishphotographer
I have never been to this place on a nice day. But who wants clear blue skies with this vista anyway? More about castlerigg here
A Stone Circle just outside Inverness. Our countryside has many of these spread all over the countryside. Just being there gives you a sense of quiet, power and spirituality. Realising just how long it has been standing and how many people looked upon it fills me with awe. / Nikon D80 / f18 / 18 – 135mm lens at 18mm / I took 3 shots one at 1/20sec that was the correct exposure and two others over exposed at 1/5 sec and 0.8sec. I then run all three through Photomatix and produced an HDR that was not too different from the correct exposure the only difference was more frost detail and a slight change to the sky. I could possibly have done a similar effect by just using the lasoo tool to select the frost on the water and feather is to 150 and increase the levels slightly. Any questions or if you want to see the correct image before HDR just mail me I would be delighted to share it. /
