Stirling Ranges – Western Australia Located near Albany on the South Coast of Western Australia lies the beautiful Stirling ranges. Shot on Kodak Film during 1994.
Craig’s Hut on Mt Stirling in the Victorian High Country was built for the filming of The Man From Snowy River. / Lost only recently in the fires that swept the High Country an major effort is now underway to rebuild the hut. / The hut and it’s location with it’s magnificent views has become a major tourist attraction for both 4wd enthusiasts and the touring public. / This image of the hut was taken about 10 months before the fires swept through.

This was taken just as the sun had come up. It had been a wet and stormy night, and I was out trying to photograph lightning but was unsuccessful, so I found a nice spot that I had come across the day before and thought would make a nice spot for a sunrise shoot. When I arrived at the spot, it was still raining and overcast and I was expecting sunrise to be ruined by the cloud cover, but I decided to wait around for a while before heading back to camp. Shortly after sunrise, the clouds started to break up and I saw a gap in the clouds starting to open up, and then I started to see some colour breaking though the clouds, so I got my camera and tripod out the back of the car and set up and waited. Suddenly some sunlight came out from the clouds and the landscape in front of me lit up and became bathed in golden light. You can see some rain coming down in the top right hand corner of the photo behind the mountain range which was another bonus! The light didn’t last very long though, maybe 5-10 mins, then it became overcast again and started to rain again, so I packed up and headed back to camp. It didn’t clear up again till around midday on that day, but it was a spectacular sunrise and one of my favourite photos, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed shooting it. EOS 20D. I took this panorama just as the clouds covered the sun and a new storm front was about to pass over the canola field. Canon EOS 20D. Featured In: Landscape Photography, Panoramas.
The Trossachs National Park lies just North of Stirling and is the Gateway to the Scottish Highlands. I spotted the light on the hillside as I was out for a drive.
Good old British pound, taken using the canon 18-55 kit lens and a reversing ring. / / / / / / / Add dave7j to your watchlist »
Early on a winter morning, from Mount Buller. Other Landscapes ... More Mountains ... More Mt Buller ...
Taken from Stirling Castle, Scotland
I took this at Stirling Castle… one of my favourite spots I love to visit when I am in Scotland. When I look at this image I can’t help but think about the history of the place and what it would have been like ‘away back then’...... I could almost hear the metallic sound of armour as someone rushed through this passageway and the noise echoing off the thick stone walls oh to glimpse a few seconds…..
Part of my 20 images that changed my portfolio set. Inside Stirling Castle is this amazing corridor. Full of history and power one can only imagine the wheeling and dealing that went on in here to save someone’s life….
Those that know me well know that i was shattered when Craig’s hut burnt down in the 2006/2007 bush fires. I have loved “The Man from Snowy River” since i was a little girl and it had always been a dream of mine to one day see Craig’s hut in the flesh… then it was ravished by fire last year… well they have rebuilt it and thatks to our wonderful friend whom we stay with in Bonnie Doon, he took me and my family up there, knowing how much it would mean to me… / I will be returning here as i have fallen in love with the High country!
My first attempt at a HDR image. Not a true one in the sense that i took multiple exposure shots… i made different exposure shots with my RAW converter…then put together with photomatrix… Was good fun! Not sure it is right but i think it looks ok???

Does it look cold in this shot ? Well one thing I can tell you is that it was ! This little hut is at about 1300m ASL and the conditions were a mixture of snow, sleet, fog, wind and mud – it certainly sounds like fun doesn’t it ! bubblesite / photography blog / portfolio ©T.Middleton2009 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— /
Taken during a camera club camp outing last weekend in the high country. / HDR 3 images -1,0,+1
Craig’s Hut was built in 1981 for the film “The Man from Snowy River” then destroyed in the 2006 bushfires that ravaged the area. It has been rebuilt and, despite the fact that it is not an original settlers’ hut from a bygone era, it looks like it has been there for centuries. / HDR created with three images at -3, 0, +3 blended in Photomatix with tone-mapping filter applied. / This was taken at sunset and I thought I’d try a BW sunset shot for a change. / Nikon D700 with 24-70 mm lens
