Craig’s Hut on Mt Stirling in the Victorian High Country was built for the filming of The Man From Snowy River. / Lost only recently in the fires that swept the High Country an major effort is now underway to rebuild the hut. / The hut and it’s location with it’s magnificent views has become a major tourist attraction for both 4wd enthusiasts and the touring public. / This image of the hut was taken about 10 months before the fires swept through.

As i was driving home from our day out i seen the Castle in the distance and thought i just had to get a shot . / A BIT OF THE HISTORY: / During a long and bloody history Stirling Castle has been attacked or besieged at least 16 times. Three battles have been fought in its immediate vicinity, two of which were turning points in Scottish history: and a fourth equally important battle took place just a few miles to the north. A number of Scottish Kings and Queens have been baptised, or crowned, or died within or near Stirling Castle. And at least one King was murdered nearby: while another committed murder within its walls. Much of the History of Scotland has been played out at Stirling Castle or within sight of it… / A site as important as the castle rock at Stirling, guarding as it does the lowest crossing point of the River Forth, would have been of strategic interest to anyone wanting to control central Scotland. There is, however, no actual evidence that the Romans or the Votadini, or the Picts who fought over this ground in the first millennium A.D. fortified the rock: it simply seems highly likely that they would have done. And it is sadly only an attractive theory that the legend of Camelot is based on a castle here during King Arthur’s conquest of parts of Scotland in the 6th Century. / http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/

My first attempt at a HDR image. Not a true one in the sense that i took multiple exposure shots… i made different exposure shots with my RAW converter…then put together with photomatrix… Was good fun! Not sure it is right but i think it looks ok???

Those that know me well know that i was shattered when Craig’s hut burnt down in the 2006/2007 bush fires. I have loved “The Man from Snowy River” since i was a little girl and it had always been a dream of mine to one day see Craig’s hut in the flesh… then it was ravished by fire last year… well they have rebuilt it and thatks to our wonderful friend whom we stay with in Bonnie Doon, he took me and my family up there, knowing how much it would mean to me… / I will be returning here as i have fallen in love with the High country!

The Trossachs National Park lies just North of Stirling and is the Gateway to the Scottish Highlands. I spotted the light on the hillside as I was out for a drive.

Scanned from a photo I took when on holiday. !The Battle of Stirling Bridge was a battle of the First War of Scottish Independence. On September 11, 1297, the forces of Andrew de Moray and William Wallace defeated the combined English forces of John de Warenne, 7th Earl of Surrey and Hugh de Cressingham near Stirling, on the River Forth!

I have loved “The Man from Snowy River” since i was a little girl and it had always been a dream of mine to one day see Craig’s hut in the flesh… then it was ravished by fire last year… well they have rebuilt it and thanks to our wonderful friend whom we stay with in Bonnie Doon, he took me and my family up there, knowing how much it would mean to me… I apologise now as i have about 70 odd photos from here and i am sure that a good number will end up on the Bub! This really was a dream come true, silly to some maybe, but for me a special moment i will never forget. I will be returning very soon as I have fallen in love with it up there…

This field is literally 2 mins from my office – weather was nice and the farmer was kind enough to let me in his field to take this one.

I took this at Stirling Castle… one of my favourite spots I love to visit when I am in Scotland. When I look at this image I can’t help but think about the history of the place and what it would have been like ‘away back then’...... I could almost hear the metallic sound of armour as someone rushed through this passageway and the noise echoing off the thick stone walls oh to glimpse a few seconds…..

Towering over the surrounding countryside in the heart of Scotland’s Braveheart country Stirling Castle is one of the great royal residences of Scottish history. A visit to this famous medieval castle is an essential part of any visit to central Scotland. It rivals even Edinburgh Castle for its sheer magnificence. It looks spectacular during the day, and enchanting when it is illuminated in a foggy night. / / / / Framed Print /

Non HDR Version (this sign in the UK and Europe is actually a traffic sign that means ‘No Entry’ hence the title of the piece….. ) My thanks to Andy Gibb for this excellent history…. This is Mar’s Wark Located at the top of Broad Street, on Castle Wynd. just down from Argyll’s Lodging / Commissioned around 1569 by the powerful Earl of Mar, heriditary Keeper of Stirling Castle and one time Regent of Scotland during the minority of James VI. The Earls of Mar were originally the Erskine Family who were appointed by David II as heriditary keepers of Stirling Castle. The shell is a renaissance style town house and is all that remains of a once, grand building at the top of the Old Town. The facade of Mars Wark is decorated with stone carvings, panels, gargoyles and much of the stone would have come from the ruined Cambuskenneth Abbey. The 11th Earl of Mar supported the Jacobite cause and following the failure of the 1715 rebellion, the house was converted into barracks. During the 1745-6 rising it was damaged by cannon fire and fell into ruin.

Operated by the Bluff Harbour Board, as a lighted tower and boat shed for the Pilot cutter from 1877, and was replaced by this building in 1912. Originally manned by two people until the early 1930’s when four were stationed there. Additional houses for the Harbourmaster and Pilots were also sited on the Pilot Station Reserve. © edwin wood
