Went for a six mile hike the other week, up and around a local beauty spot known as Stiperstones. This is one of many rocky outcrops and it’s called the devils chair …. I’ve tweaked it slightly in photoshop ….. basically , it’s a montage of several images layered on top of each other, using blending modes and layer masks . / . / Copyright 2008 Richie Dean

Needed to get some fresh air. So grabbed my camera and headed for Stiperstones, set in the Shropshire hills. / Several shots were taken on the way up, while the light began to fade. I haven’t much time, so need to get a move on, if I am to get to the top of the stiperstones before all of the light goes.

My first attempt at a blend of infra red and colour – merged down to HDR. I like the feel this gives of an old black and white, hand tinted shot ! Mitchells Fold is a bronze age (3000-3500 yrs ago) stone circle at the Stiperstones, South Shropshire.

This is what I have been waiting for, its not the best I have seen, as there is a lot of cloud on the horizon, but it is very beautiful from up here and well worth the climb.

Surreal skies seem to be a thing for Shropshire and I am constantly amazed at the diversity of colours and how fast they change during the sunrise or sunset especially on the higher ground.

I had this image mounted at an art show and a little girl stood there quietly for around 10 mins, eventually I asked her what she was doing “counting faces”, came the reply “Can’t you see them”. Well, ok I can see one The Playhouse Face we have for musicals and theatre right there at the top but any others Im not so sure on. How many can you find?

I climbed back over the ridge to get a better angle and improved the shot by adding more of the heather in the foreground.

The sky was pretty amazing as I climbed higher and higher. When I first arrived in Snailbeach the cloud was very low on the tops and in the valley’s the fog still lingered.

Now that I have managed to capture my breath, I can now concentrate on getting the best out of the failing light. All I have with me is my Nikon D80, my Sigma 10-20mm and a ND4 filter.

I am thinking if I should of taken some sort of waterproof, as those clouds look as though they are about to burst.

Stiperstones is set in the Shropshire hill’s and a great place for walkers and photographers of all ages. / A little rough under foot as you climb higher, but for the view, the rough climb is worth it. This is the highest point, silhouetted against the evening sky.
